Our friends, Lisa & Jan, have relocated up to Anderson, CA (NorCal) and are opening up their home for a weekend adventure. There will be some sleeping accommodations (beds, air mattresses, RV, etc.) and lots of spots to camp on the property. There are tons of roads up in that neck of the woods that we haven't visited in quite some time so I think it's time we get back up there.
More information and additional details to come as we get closer but be sure to put it on your calendar to save the dates!
From our friend, Deb Sell:
To my Dangerous Curves family!! We are moving and will be having a housewarming party at our new digs in Royal Oaks, overlooking Elkhorn Slough and the Monterey Bay!! The date of the party is Saturday, May 19! If you're interested in comingy by, send me a private message with your email addy and I will send you an Evite when they go out!!
It’s time once again for our annual trek to Bridgeport staying at the Virginia Creek Settlement (http://www.virginiacreeksettlement.com/). For those in the Bay Area, we’ll head over the passes on Saturday, Sept. 8th (additional details to follow as we get closer)… for those in other parts, plan on meeting us there on Saturday or we can figure out a lunch meet. There is a restaurant onsite for dinner that evening.
Sunday will be a “free” day to go where you want, how you want..., and to do whatever your little riding hearts desire… lots to see and experience in the area including Bodie State Historical Park (ghost town), Mono Lake, June Lake, Mammoth Lakes, the whoops on 120 into Benton, and the brilliant passes nearby (Sonora, Tioga into Yosemite, Monitor, and Ebbetts) as well as a few hot springs locations. Sunday evening there will be a group dinner at the Settlement (again, details to follow) and we’ll also make arrangements for a buffet breakfast on Sunday/Monday mornings.
To make a reservation, you need to call the owner, Jimmy, on his cell number… he has new staff on board and sometimes they aren’t up to speed with the details of our stay there. Mention my name or Dangerous Curves. His cell number is (661) 619-6769. At the moment, there is lots of availability. Should things start to book up, there is another motel right across the road, Willow Springs (http://willowspringsbridgeport.com/).
Looking forward to another wonderful weekend in the Sierras!
Its another 3-day/2 night hangout in the famous, fabulous Manchester KOA. Sunday will be open for us to explore locally or hang near the beach, before riding back on Monday.
Make your reservations ASAP as they tend to fill up quickly... be sure to call and mention you're with Dangerous Curves to get placed closer together in the park (707.882.2375). FYI, bring your own linens or a sleeping bag and towel. If you forget, you can rent either when you get there. There are a variety of accommodations to suit everyone's tastes.
When posting info for this year's Bridgeport ride, I realized I had never posted the photos from LAST year's ride! Apologies but here is a link for anyone who is interested... some fun pics from the dirt road that some of us took...
Time for our annual trek to Bridgeport - please note this trip is two nights - Saturday AND Sunday! A lot of folks already reserved their cabin before they even left last year but there is still room left. Currently still available:
Tent Cabin 1
Tent Cabin 2
Tent Cabin 3
Tent Cabin 4
Everything is under the name Dangerous Curves so you need to call the Settlement directly, identify yourself with the Dangerous Curves group, and that you are placing one of the units held under Dangerous Curves in your name. The staff should be able to help if they call the main number this year - Jimmy (owner) thinks he has them broken in pretty well 😋.. If you have any issues, you can call Jimmy directly at (661) 619-6769 and leave him a message and he'll handle your reservation directly.
Dinner on Saturday will be on your own, group dinner on Sunday at the Settlement. I'll have more details on that soon as well as meet spot and routes... you're welcome to do your own thing and meet us there!
We've had quite the winter here in our sunny (rainy) state.... it's wreaked havoc but also has created some amazing silver linings such as wildflower bloom... we'll head to Antelope Valley and Carrizon Plains to witness the spectacle (weather dependent of course!).
Please note: This ride is planned as a mellow "blow off the cobwebs" and "flower sniffing" - in other words, enjoying the world around us! The routes are rough drafts at the moment and may change as we get closer.... You are welcome to ride with me or do your own thing and meet us at the hotel.
Ride Your Own Ride!
P.S. Ride is weather dependent.
If you are so inclined, please consider chipping in to cover the administrative, planning, and Meetup costs. Thanks!
Or via Paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!

I'm on a mailing list for Daffodil Hill, a private location in the Sierra Foothills that opens their gates to visitors once a year to see their spectacular daffodil blooms. It is a crapshoot, however, to be able to visit at the right time since the window is very small and can be affected by weather, etc. I got the notification that they were open so scheduled a trip right away to go see them, posted the ride, made some routes and hotel reservations, and was all set. Four day...s later, I got the notification that due to heavy rains, the blooms were done for the year and they had closed for the season. ARGH!! But I thought, what the hell... it's all planned so let's go for a weekend ride anyway... and so we did.
It was a smallish group which was lovely after the cat herding of Death Valley and the weather gods smiled down upon us with cool but clear weather and we found some great wildflowers and even some daffodils to boot... it was a great weekend and we revisited some of my favorite roads that I hadn't been on in a while... almost like finding a new road!
Thanks to the kindred spirits who joined in for the weekend and made it that much more special!
We'll travel up to the Gold Country to visit Daffodil Hill while it's in bloom:
This will be an overnight ride and we will be staying at The National Hotel:...
I'll organize a dinner for Saturday night once I have an idea for headcount. Saturday meet spot and routes to come. Look forward to seeing you all!
NOTE: Routes are approximate - Google maps is being weird!

Fantastic journey to the Valley of Death... and we all lived! Weather Gods were with us, great friends - some we didn't know we had yet - and desert wildflower bloom... can it get any better than that??
I took a bunch of photos but only posting some here. Link to all the pics is here if anyone is interested:
The Out of the Darkness Overnight, organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, is a 16-18-mile journey through the night, from dusk until dawn. It's a unique opportunity to bring the issues of depression and suicide into the light as thousands of participants walk together to turn heartbreak into hope for tomorrow. Every step they take and dollar raised for the event will help AFSP continue to develop research and educational programs that will benefit those ...affected by mood disorders and suicide.
This year will be held in San Francisco, CA, on May 21, 2016. They are looking for motorcyclists to be a part of the Crew who support Walkers along the Route. Motorcycle Safety is tasked with assisting at difficult intersections and alerting Walkers to dangerous situations. There are also other crew and volunteer opportunities that don’t involve motorcycles so check it out and see where you might be able to help out if you would like to do so.
FYI, there is a registration fee of $50 – this fee helps to defray costs of meals, event shirts, supplies, vehicles (non-moto related), pre-event training and fundraising support and resources. I know there are some folks who aren’t keen on having to pay a fee to participate in the event and I understand that point of view. I personally look at it as my way of supporting the event. They are, however, offering a 30% discount if you register by November 29, 2015 so that fee would only be $35. To receive your discounted registration, simply enter discount code Alumni2016 during the registration process online or by calling 424.258.0533.
Here is the website if you’d like more information or would like to sign up to volunteer for any one of the crews:
Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions about the event. You are also welcome to contact the Crew Coordinator, Joe Polizzi, directly with any questions:
