Just spoke to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak about his decision to quit Facebook. “Facebook was a good idea but management didn’t do enough to protect our privacy and they’re so not transparent.” He’s on the East Coast today. Photo from an Apple event last fall. More on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg preparing for U.S. Senate and House hearings on ABC7 News at 5:00 and 6:00 this evening.

Thanks to everyone who turned out for San Mateo’s 50th Anniversary Homecoming parade and civic celebration Saturday morning. San Mateo’s adopted 101st Airborne unit was joined by 52 other organizations marching down B Street.
What fun to announce the parade with former San Mateo Mayor Claire Mack.
Congratulations to all the participants and to the city staff, including city clerk Patrice Olds and deputy city clerk Joan Diskin. Thanks, too, to the Scouts and other youth who marched and performed and who have kept the relationship with the troops meaningful by sending them letters and care packages.
It was heartwarming to see and hear passengers applauding and standing in the United terminal at SFO this morning as a contingent of the 101st Airborne Division was led to baggage claim after arriving from Kentucky to participate in this weekend’s 50th anniversary celebration of its adoption by the City of San Mateo.
This unit along with 40 Vietnam War vets will be marching in a parade in downtown San Mateo starting at 11am. I’m honored to be the parade announcer as I was when they visited in 2012. The route is along B Street between Baldwin Ave. & 7th Ave. That will be followed by a civic gathering in San Mateo Central Park.
Savory meets sweet: What a memorable experience Friday evening that included truffle ice cream to transition to dessert courses. The decoration on the dish hinted at what was to come.
Next came condiments of slivered fried potato, cream, caramel and sprinkles. The tureen was filled with caviar and tiny gummy bears. The combinations worked!
At Washington D.C.’s Pineapple & Pearls where the counter seat provided a great view of each dish being prepared, plated and garnishe...d for the set menu. As you might expect, the chefs worked in impressive synchronization. One of them had staged at Geranium in Copenhagen, one of the best and most memorable restaurants I have enjoyed.
Even with two chefs tasting each sauce as it was made, however, two or three of them were flawed by a tad too much salt. Overall, Andrew and the entire P&P team are deserving of the accolades and buzz they are getting. The stemware and the presentation boxes used for the amuse bouche and the candy reflect the care and style that are part of their dining experience.
Congratulations to ABC Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts and East Bay Congressman Eric Swalwell, honorees at Thursday evening’s First Amendment Awards gala in Washington, D.C.
The Radio Television Digital News Foundation presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Robin and its Defender of the First Amendment Award to Swalwell. I’m vice chair & trustee of the foundation.
The power of social media: Check out my story about two men who met today with the help of social media after they learned they were long lost brothers.
You know what they say about your two seconds of fame.. Well, I got maybe a half-second (if you didn’t blink) on the live broadcast of the San Francisco Chinese New Year parade Saturday night while walking past the reviewing stand on Union Square. Thanks for the screen grab, Scott Arthur, ABC7 News videographer extraordinaire. He doesn’t miss a thing!
Today marks the anniversary of the Coyote Creek flood in SanJose. Won't forget covering the evacuation of 14,000 residents, who got no warning, lost cars & suffered flooded apartments. $73 million in damage. The story of one family one year later: http://abc7ne.ws/2sIiCMK
So very proud to see my Goddaughter Sarah Collins get married Saturday in Palm Harbor, FL to Ryan Tomko. She has made everyone proud along every stage of her life -- tae kwon do, collegiate fencing at Duke, and many other accomplishments. She and Ryan are the perfect couple.
I was busy taking candids (trying not to interfere with the professional wedding photographers); so I'm grateful to Sarah's Uncle Steven for taking a photo of me with Sarah and her Godmother, Susan Benjamin.
A perfect day -- ideal weather, the setting at Innisbrook, the ceremony and, of course, the beaming newlyweds. As Sarah would say, Best Day Ever. Indeed. Still, we know there will be many more Best Days Ever ahead.
Gung Hay Fat Choy! Sun Neen Fai Lok! Happy Chinese New Year — Year of the Dog. This is a photo I took at last year’s San Francisco Chinese New Year parade. This year’s parade will be on Feb. 24. Will you be there?
