Most fun venue in DC. It doesn't matter whether you can dance or not; you'll be smiling the whole time.

For our first dance of the year, we're starting things off right! Our very own Janine Smith, one of the east coast's most celebrated square dance callers, will be calling fun, lively squares with her unique humorous, helpful teaching style. And the Leveetoppers from Philly will sweep you right off the dance floor with their hot, grooving fiddle melodies! That's Lyle Werner on fiddle, Sasha Hsuczyk on guitar and vocals, Andy McLeod on banjo and guitar, and Michael Foster on ba...ss. Come on out and dance away the cold with us!

Want to learn to call square dances at parties, street festivals and other dance-worthy occasions? Well, we're hosting a workshop led by Elkins, WV-based T-Claw, one of today's most talented and creative young callers!

This workshop will focus on Appalachian dance traditions. T-Claw, an experienced instructor and a square dancing force of nature, has studied with many of West Virginia's master callers. Through hands-on activities, participants will practice the basics of squ...are dance calling, choreography, effective teaching methods, working with kids, rhythm and rhyming patter. By the end of the session participants will have the tools needed to organize and call dances in their own communities. Free book of figures included. No prior calling experience is necessary; ages 8 and above are welcome to attend. Suggested $20, but no worries if you can't pay.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. The workshop will take place in DC's Petworth neighborhood; street address will be emailed to registrants.

To register, email gpopkin@gmail.com
