Come down to the lovely wine vaults in Kingsdown for our first gig of 2016.
I'm really glad that Matty J will be spinning some ace records before and after the set. All killer, no filler
Dear Light - formerly the rhythm section of The Weary Band, but now a piano/bass duo with a fondness for sugary melodies that'll rot your teeth!
Musically, imagine somewhere between Harry Nilsson, The Carpenters, Judee Sill, Leonard Cohen, Todd Rundgren, Super Furry Animals, Leon Russell, Jimmy Webb and Arvo Pärt - then clear your mind of all these - and we're somewhere to be found in that space.
Currently working on our epic 40-song 5th album, 'Broken Hymns'.
'A lovely little thing from Bristol' - Steve Lamacq, BBC6 Music.
The first Dear Light gig in a long while. We're going to play quite a few songs for the first time...across 2 sets. Looking forward to playing the beautiful, if slightly battered baby grand piano there. Bristol Folk House - 8pm - £4
Wowiwowiwow! 'No More Blues' was played on Steve Lamacq's BBC 6 Music show yesterday afternoon. He described it, or maybe us(!) as "a lovely little thing from Bristol!"
Our national radio debut is around 12-13 minutes into the show xx
Sunny Fridays require jaunty pop - and this is my offering, replete with Brian May-style fuzz guitars in the chorus, 'ba ba ba da ba' backing vocals, cowbell and casios. Sometimes i sing this at home in a Randy Newman voice - this may end up happening live one day. But until that day comes, be thankful xx
#tbt One of my oldest songs, re-recorded for ‘The Observer’ album in 2011, but originally written and recorded perhaps ten years earlier than that. I think it may just have been possible that I was listening to The Beatles during this period. It’s barely noticeable, right?
The title song of my fourth album, written with a heavy nod in the direction of Roy Orbison - and his voice should be here instead of mine. However, i am rather fond of the string section i wrote for the middle section.
