The same opportunities that helped my family achieve the American Dream are out of reach for too many families today. Miami-Dade families are struggling to make ends meet while spending 58-42% of their income on rent. When elected I will make sure to support affordable housing developments for hardworking Americans living in our community while growing the local economy so it's easier for families to get ahead not harder.

A HUD report found that the housing crisis is worsening nationwide and the Miami metro area has the most low-income renters desperately seeking affordable housing.

Yesterday, Carlos Curbelo went on television to make this statement: "I'm not saying these people are racists, I'm not saying that they want to advance a racist agenda, but it is pretty clear that they believe that these groups should be accommodated." It's time to speak with clarity: Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller are racist sympathizers and have no place in the White House.
His statement doesn't go far enough and today I'm calling for my opponent to call for their resignation. Sign on if you agree. --> https://act.myngp.com/Forms/-4243570631703852288

Since the implementation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) 5 years ago today, more than 800,000 DREAMers—including 102,000 Floridians—have been able to live without fear of deportation and have their shot at the American dream. I stand with them against Trump and his allies who threaten to take it all away.

My opponent says he supports DACA, but his Leadership PAC has donated to 47 Republicans since 2015 and half of them have voted to dismantle the program. We can’t have a leader who says one thing at home and does another in Washington—Florida families deserve better. #HereToStay #DefendDACA

The hatred, bigotry, and violence that happened today in Charlottesville is heartbreaking. The rhetoric that fuels this behavior from the Trump Administration is unacceptable. We must do better.

White nationalists and counter-protesters were gathered in Charlottesville when a car drove into a crowd. The driver was arrested and charges are pending.

Banning the word Climate Cange will not stop it from impacting Florida families. Through my work with the Coral Restoration Foundation, I know first-hand that we cannot wait to act on Climate Change. We need immediate action to invest in green energy, reduce carbon emissions, and update infrastructure that will protect South Florida from sea level rise.

According to emails obtained by The Guardian, officials told staffers in the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to change the way they discuss climate change in their work.

Lower and simplified fees mean more people have the opportunity to experience our National Parks. Tonight I joined the conversation on why I am not for fees that make it harder for families to experience the beauty the Everglades provides. We must find a solution that makes sense for residents, visitors, and business owners that depend on the Everglades.

Today families immigrate to the United States for the same reason my family did in 1985 - in search of opportunities to better their lives. Drawn by the promise that if you work hard anyone can make it in America. Washington Republicans and the Trump Administration continue to betray the American promise. https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/trump-gop-senators-to-int…/

The bill is expected to face fierce resistance from congressional Democrats and immigrant rights groups.

I’ve spent the last twenty-years dedicated to improving the lives of underserved communities in Miami-Dade, working to protect our environment and improve healthcare access for all Floridians.

Now, I want to take our fight to Congress. That’s why I’m challenging Carlos Curbelo for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. Winning this race is going to take all of us! And it’s going to be tough, but with your help, we can do it.

As I watch my daughter happily dance outside with such energy and joy I remind myself that we all need to continue to work and fight for what's right: Opportunities for our children, equality for all, respect for our differences. Let's make sure we protect those who are underrepresented, underserved and don't have a voice.
