We had a party of visit Mario’s on Sunday December 3rd., 12 adults and 5 children’s. After more the 2.5 hrs only four (4) of us had received our salads and soup. It was the worst dinning experience I... have ever had. Even to get bread and refills on drinks we would have to flag someone down. We were giving several excuses as to why we were receiving our food. We were told the reason we had not seen our waitress in 45 minutes was because she was in the kitchen getting our main course ready. Wow, we hadn’t even received our soup, salad and pasta yet. I voiced my displeasure to someone that said he was a manager and was told that one of the problems they had was that they had RUN out of pasta. Really, an Italian Restaurant running out of pasta. My wife and I finally talked to who we believe was the owner. We had children that needed to be fed and that we were leaving, we were not waiting any longer. We were asked to wait because our food was coming out right now. After another fifteen (15) still no food. My wife said we were willing to pay for the drinks and salads but were were leaving because it was now going on 3 hrs. The owner said soup & Salad was $20 a head and I owned her $250. I told her I was NOT paying $250 for Four (4) Salad and five (5) bowls of soup. Soup that was maybe 1” deep in the bowl. She was calling the police and they took a photo of our vehicle and plate

We had family in from California, Wisconsin & Florida. It was a total disaster as a family holiday get together. It wasn’t just the issue with the food. The staff was rude and didn’t seem to care about us. We would have to ask for refills of water and received sighs and looks like we were bothering them.

The rating are 1-5 Stars. I give them a One Star and that’s only because a Zero Star option is not available.

Again, this was the Worse dinning experience I have ever had. My recommendation is Do Not visit Mario’s.

This is our favorite 'go-to' restaurant when we have ppl in from out of town. It's a dining experience, not just dinner. They start you out with Italian olives, prosciutto, salami, shrimp, olive salad... and radishes along with Italian bread...then on to a four course dinner. Their filet is the best in the city. If you go on Friday or Saturday night you will also have live music to enjoy. It's worth the $$ See More

I was at Mario’s on Saturday. It was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The service was exactly how you described, cold and rude. And it took forever for our meal to arrive. It took an hour an...d ten minutes just to get salad, which my sister almost broke a tooth on a small sharp rock, the female buser laughed when we told her. Soup arrived cold another 45 minutes later. Then an hour after we finished our soup our main course arrived cold. When we told them the food was cold they again were hostile. And then brought out cold side pasta. We talk to who we thought was the owner about all of it and he didn’t care. When we told him about the salad he said that they buy the produce and are not responsible. When we had several federal attorneys at the table, obviously if you are preparing and selling a plate you are responsible for washing the produce and creating the salad. Overall extremely horrible. Food was very over priced and not that good and the service is even worse. Oh and the shuttle got us to the venue late. See More

I don't like giving bad reviews but, I'm very upset. Not even sure where to begin. First off I don't mind paying for "good" food but, small portions, spaghetti was cold. When two of the people had the...irs reheated, plates came out so hot one girl burned herself and the other one plate was hot but not the pasta. Waiter made a very rude comment to a friend (lady) of mine. After she finished her meal and he was picking up her plate. He looked at her and said "wow you are that all?" Waiter brought out coffee once had to ask for refill. Told us "we don't separate bills but, I did it for you."
The biggest and most upsetting part was the shuttle service you offer to the facts. After arguing with the hostess they finally got someone to drive the bus. We didn't get to the Fox until three minutes before the show started. Upon exiting the shuttle we ask where he would pick us up and he said like you're in front and will go right here he was well somewhere up here you have to look for me. The other party we rode the shuttle with when we left the fax called and said we're out here waiting. Oh well he'll be there in a moment. About five minutes later my girlfriend called and got the same response. Needless to say it was cold so both parties paid for a cab back to our cars. Very bad experience all around.

My wife and I celebrated Sweetest Day here this past Saturday. This was our first time at Mario's and we were excited about going after looking at the menu online. First, I was happy to hear from vale...t that parking could be added to the bill as I never carry cash. The entrance of the restaurant is quite welcoming. I was a little nervous as I didn't think to make reservations but luckily we were able to be seated right away. We sat in the back room at a table against the back wall. I really appreciated how accommodating the staff as we had our 18 month old daughter with us and they brought out the high chair immediately without us even asking. Our waiter (Chris) was very friendly, warm, and respectful, and made us feel at home (the entire serving staff did for that matter, lots of smiles).

We ordered the calamari for appetizer, and the filet mignon bourguignonne and the veal cutlet milanese. Immediately we were brought out an appetizer tray that included a couple of meats, some olives, radish, etc… We were also given a basket of bread and breadsticks (which kept the kid occupied). After a few minutes the dinner salads were brought out which weren't the greatest we've ever eaten but not bad either. Next we were brought out the soups (which I wasn't expecting) and it tasted really good. Next comes the calamari over a bed of greens which we also enjoyed.

One thing about Italian restaurants is that you will never leave hungry. We were then brought a plate of pasta with meat sauce. My daughter absolutely devoured what my wife didn't finish and made a complete pasta mess everywhere. About this time I'm thinking to myself I'm already full and the entrees were still to come. About that time a triple ice cream dessert was going to another table that looked very tantalizing.

Finally out came the entrees. I ordered my filet medium rare as Chris ensured me that it would come out perfect. And he was right! I can honestly say that it was one of the best cooked steaks I've had in a while (I've been to several of the finer establishments regionally). The wine sauce was very good and my only complaint was that there wasn't more of it on my plate. By this time the wife was stuffed and her veal would be going home with us. No, we did not get dessert.

My criticism would be that the prices are a bit high (with tip we spent $140 and we don't drink alcohol). Also, I would have liked a better presented dinner salad. The soup and pasta was also a bit basic for that price range. What I did appreciate was the timing that the food was brought out to us. It wasn't rushed which helped us to have a more quality dinner together. We literally felt like we were at home. All of the staff were very friendly but not overbearing. The entree was also quite good. So overall we had a very positive experience and although a little pricey my wife and kid enjoyed it. It was a nice change of pace and we much appreciated our evening there.

Never trust bad reviews to base whether or not you will choose a place. Service was great, food was even better! Omg the steak was out of this world! Next time maybe I’ll have room for dessert! It’s n...o wonder why this establishment has been around for as long as it has! See More

We go here often, couple times s month. Never ever a bad experience, never a bad meal. This place is not a fast food in and out, it's s dining experience which takes time, there are several courses. Went yesterday with my cousin. First let me complain. I ordered the steak siciliano which was way over cooked. Won't offer that again. Okay back to the rest of the dinner and service. My cousin had th...e chicken piccata and loved it. Outside of my steak the rest of the meal was fabulous. And I can't say enough about the great service - from the valet parking attendants all the way through. I am disabled and everyone went out of their way to make me comfortable. Our service was memorable. I'll order something different next time and sit back and enjoy. Thank you all. See More

The food was wonderful but wasn’t very happy with the service. Our server seemed to be preoccupied with other tables . We weren’t offered anything as we waited and waited. Watching other tables served. He actually was a bit rude. I️ asked him what Mario’s specializes in and his answer was short and just said filet with zip sauce.
Unfortunately even if the food is excellent and the service is not... it’s not a good experience especially for the money we spent there. Not impressed

This is my first time writing a review. My husband & I️ were there last night prior to the Andrea Bocelli concert and I️ we both walked away very disappointed. The food, the appetizers were great th...e main course had no flavor and did not represent the Old world Italian our family is use to. The shuttle dropped us off 5 blocks from Little Cesar’s and 6 weeks post-op Knee surgery that was not a fun walk. Sorry! See More

This was my favorite restaurant for many years until last night. Went down for 2 birthdays, we all ordered filet. All four filets came out over cooked. All but 1 was sent back. My husband likes his... medium rare and his was barely medium but he does not send food back as a rule. He was almost done eating, my filet came out. I was halfway done eating, the other 2 came out. What a disaster. Not at any point did our waiter apologize, did management come over and apologize, it was no big deal to them. To me, that was very poor customer service and we probably won't be back which is unfortunate because we always go there when we go to events downtown. Rate last night as 1 ⭐️ See More

The hostess said on the phone that she would turn us away if we were not in business casual clothing. Said no hats were allowed no tennis shoes. One of the people in our party did not come because the...y were rejected by the hostess on the phone. Yet when we got there, there were plenty of people with hats and gym shoes and lions jerseys. Just had dinner at Mario’s on Dec 16 before a show at the Fisher Theater. We had to wait in line for 20 minutes for the valet before dinner. Then there was a line inside the restaurant for those w...ith reservations. They mandated that you check your coats before being seated. They sat us down and brought out the silverware and napkins. We didnt get an anti pasta for the table. Bread and butter were put on the table for us to munch on. Good thing because we didnt see food for a while. Our waitress was rude from the moment we sat down to when we left. We had to flag her down for refills on our drinks. Waited for our main meal for an hour and a half and had to stuff our faces because we needed to leave for a show. My frog legs were good but my husband’s veal was awful—tough and cold. We couldn’t have dessert if we wanted to because we had to get our coats (which was a challenge) and then had to get our car from valet so we could make the performance at the Fisher. That took another 15 minutes. All in all it was an awful experience. I would have given it a negative star but that wasnt on the scale. We wont be going back there. See More

The traditional atmosphere and wonderful food are only wnhanced by the generous drinks, fine wines and impeccable service. Mike was my bartender extraordinaire and Jan the server of the Gods ...

Jenn...ifer Christiansen was the vocalist with Dwayne Harlick as her very able guitarist. Dwayne also sang several times was was very impressively expressive in his presentation. If you haven't seen Jennifer, well, all I can say is make a point of it!!! She has a wonderful voice, enormous range, and delivers with such emotion and nuance that you would swear you were listening to one of the great Divas ...

What a lovely experience.

I just want to let everyone know Mario's at 4222 Second Avenue between Willis and Canfield in Detroit, MI will call you two days before a scheduled reservation for a large party and notify you they ca...nnot accommodate your party. I made a reservation a month ago for 20 people and updated that reservation on Monday to 35 people for my family to have dinner. I get a call today from Mario's and the lady informed me she would have to let me speak with someone from the Banquet area for that many people. I told her they should have said that when I made the reservation, but ok. Another lady got on the phone and said normally we charge $100 deposit for that many people. I said ok, I'll pay the deposit. She went on to say we would have one bill, not individual bills. I said ok, but I should have been told that when I made the reservation. She then said, in a screaming voice, you will have to go on the Banquet menu. I told her that is not fair since it is two days before the dinner and I shouldn't have to find out what everyone wants to eat. She kept repeating you have to go on the Banquet menu. I asked for her supervisor. Well now, someone who said his name was Vince, the owner, got on the phone he told me we had to get on the Banquet menu. I told him the lady has already been screaming that over and over, I'm good with that. Then, he informed me we would not be in the Ballroom. So, I asked what is there to do in the Banquet Room, but eat. The only reason I made the reservation was because I had been there when two other families had birthday dinners and the band was good, not so much their food and service, but it would have been fun for me and my family. He told me my family could go back and forth from the Banquet Room to Ballroom. That was the last straw. I told him cancel the reservation. Why did Vince and his staff not want us at Marios? He could only tell me, in a very dry voice, it was a busy Saturday and that they couldn't accommodate my party. What happened between Monday and today? So, Mario's is so busy it has no problem losing a reservation for 35 people? Help me understand? Thank God for 5th Tavern in Bloomfield, MI for welcoming all of us on Saturday!!!!!! See More

Long wait for mediocre food, poor service, very confrontational waiter. When one of our friends asked for white wine, the response was "there's red on the table". When she stated she would prefer whi...te, the server grunted and stomped away to get the wine! This was just part of what happened throughout the evening. When we brought up our displeasure about our experience, the attitude from the manager was basically "too bad"! He acted as if we should have considered ourselves fortunate to even be there.
We will not be returning, as their are far superior restaurants to frequent in Detroit.

Several had shrimp scampi which was good. Two ordered surf and turf. Good. Two of the people in our party know the owner and waiters. The staff was nice. Love the food but thought the service was slow... especially in between each entree. Big crowd because of the Sistene Chapel concert. Did not like the long shuttle wait after the concert. Would recommend. See More
