Today our hearts are hurting - We are chanting for the people who lost their lives in the Christchurch shooting and for their families, friends and all fellow humans everywhere affected by such senseless tragedy. Please join me and the Gyuto Monks by tuning into the great Tibetan mantra invoking compassion: OM Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayuh Pune Jana Putim Kuru Soha. We are reminded of a powerful meditation - where, instead of trying to avoid the pain of feeling the sadness, we use the power of our hearts to transform the suffering into love. Pema Chödrön (@anipemachodron) describes it here: "On the in-breath, breathe in the pain of those who have lost loved ones; suddenly, or recently, unexpectedly or over a long period of time ... with the wish that those human beings or those mistreated animals or whoever it is - that they will be free of that suffering, and breathe in with the longing to remove their suffering. And as you breathe out, send a prayer that these peoples’ hearts and minds feel big enough to live with their discomfort, their fear, their anger or their despair, or their physical or mental anguish. For those who are suffering in any way, you can send out safety and comfort.… Breathing in as fully as you can, radiating out as widely as you can." OSHO says: “The moment you take all the sufferings of the world inside you, they are no longer sufferings. The heart immediately transforms the energy. The heart is a transforming force: drink in misery, and it is transformed into blissfulness… then pour it out. Once you have learned that your heart can do this magic, this miracle, you would like to do it again and again.”
