Sabers rally but come up a run short. 8-7 is the final. Teams combined for 20 hits. Make sure to check out Saturday's The Observer for a full recap of tonight's game.

Carlisle does not cool down. Wildcats erupt for four more runs in the sixth. Sabers trail 8-5 heading to the seventh.

Sabers reel off five straight hits with two out -- highlighted by a two-run double by Austin Weiss -- to push across four runs, but Carlisle finally gets to Sikkema, plates four runs of their own and it's 5-4 Central after a busy fifth inning.

Sikkema strikes out the side in the fourth. That first inning run still the difference, Sabers up 1-0.

Carlisle leads off its half of the third with a double but strands the runner at third preserving the Sabers ' 1-0 lead.

Sabers strand a man at second but still lead 1-0 after two innings.

Sabers strike first. T.J. Sikkema doubles in McGwire Eden and then retires the Wildcats in order. 1-0 Central after one.

We are 30 minutes from action in a 3A state baseball quarterfinal at Principal Park in Des Moines. The Observer will have inning by inning updates as the Central DeWitt Sabers take on Carlisle.
