If you sell a $100 service with a 20% net profit margin you have $20 profit left over after all expenses. A $10 coupon cuts your profit's in half.

\\\\ 2 Year Olds, New Years Eve, Cookies, and Another Business Lesson ///

Happy New Year!!!

Have you ever tried to have a New Year's party with friends who all have kids?

...

Well, the kids had fun... I think.

It took us about two hours to figure out the idea of putting on a movie. But by that time the sugar from cookies had taken control, and the magic of New Year's Eve was gone... at 9:30pm.

By 10:00pm everyone was gone, and Nicole and I were watching Harry Potter at midnight. 😂😂

Last year, as we crawled into bed at 8:30pm, Nicole and I thought about DVRing the ball drop so we could watch it at 7:30 the next morning before William woke up...

Next year... I think we will plan a month in advance, ship him to mamaw's, and invite our friends to do the same.

Next year, IF we get it right, it will have taken my wife and I FOUR YEARS to figure out how to celebrate the New Year's Day with a child. Part of the issue is that it changes so much from year to year. There really ought to be more communication between parents about how these things REALLY work... hasn't ANYONE figured this stuff out!?

It's not like we're business competitors...

In business, our competitors have good reason to hide what really works, so unless you find a proven way of building, running, and growing your business, it CAN take four, five, or even ten or more years to figure out what works.

Looking back at it, when I hired my first real business coach, I was literally BUYING time. One of the greatest rewards I have in my life is to be able to spend significant amount of time with my 2 1/2 year old son, William.

Recently, whenever he gets tired of being stuck at home (today was a high of 12* F) he has started saying, "It's go time daddy! Are you ready?"

He means that he's tired of where he is and wants to go do something more exciting like play in the snow, read a book at the library, or go play on the church's indoor playground.

In the same way, this time, between December 6th and January 1st, is my favorite time of the year... It's my GO TIME.

When Thanksgiving, celebrating Nicole & I's anniversary, my birthday and putting up the Christmas decorations are behind me, and I can spend some serious time devoted to my GO TIME.

These 3 1/2 weeks are where I get to assess my life, and I get decide what stays, what goes, and what needs my highest priorities. Its the time I spend planning my actions that will create next year's business breakthroughs.
