An indispensable cornerstone for the creative community of Gadsden. Not only is it fun for my daughter (and myself for yoga classes!) to learn, but each instructor is highly qualified, deeply knowled...geable and passionate about dance and teaching. We absolutely love DDC for their top notch productions, opportunities they provide to the dancers, the inclusion of great adult classes, a beautiful studio space, their dedication to the local community, and especially fun and professional staff that go above and beyond. Very highly recommended!! See More

There are not words sufficient enough to describe the wonderful impact DDC had on me during the years I danced there. (2006-12) I searched for over a year and a half for a dance studio after I thought... I would never have the opportunity to take quality ballet lessons again, and my prayers were answered when I stumbled on a newspaper article with a picture from one of McRae's original productions (The Legend of Evenstar, which was nearly 10 years ago). I was captivated, and convinced my parents to let me give dancing a shot again. It wasn't easy having to relearn everything, and I was rusty as I'll get out, but the atmosphere at the Conservatory was everything I dreamed, and I never wanted to give up, and Linze is so patient and understanding with all of her students. She is not only a skilled, talented and qualified instructor (certified by the Royal Academy of Dance based in London), she is full of light and positive energy for everyone around her, and the productions she puts together are truly works of art. She is very professional, and also works hard to give her students opportunities to broaden their horizons not just as a dancer, but to enrich their performance/stage presence and confidence in general. Discipline, character, and hard work in class are respected, and pay off, and to a lot of students, Linze, Cammie, Laura and Krystin become mentors and friends.
Each production is originally written by McRae, (and typically sold-out) with the principal dancers and higher level Corps de Ballet in the leading roles, but even the youngest of dancers get to experience the magic of sharing the stage with them, and being intertwined into the story. (As well as experience the beautiful costumes, adoration of sold-out crowd, and the elaborate sets and designs, which Linze's husband, Ryan helps put together). Each show blends classical and contemporary dance choreography and music together effortlessly in each of production, so there is a wide-range of appeal for audience-goers of any age. No one that I know ever attended a DDC production and left without being impressed. Linze, Cammie, Laura and Krystin are such a great team and joy to be around, full of so much love, that even the littlest of students adore and admire them and grow in confidence. It is a great environment if you have a little daughter that wants to take ballet, but also, there are no age limits -- so if you're just wanting to discover or rediscover contemporary and classical dance, you are welcome and will find a place at the Conservatory!

Congratulations to principal soloist, Elyssa Simpson, for her awards while competing in the Distinguished Young Women of St. Clair County this summer. In addition to being named 1st Runner-Up for her county, Elyssa also received scholarship awards in Fitness and Talent. Her talent performance was an adaptation of Hot Chocolate Spanish variation from Linze Rickles McRae and Downtown Dance Conservatory's Old World Nutcracker.

New student registration opens May 4th. Email us at info@ddcgadsden to be placed on our list to receive reminders and information!

We are very excited to announce the booking of two of our performances for Italy next month!

Frascati is about 15 miles from central Rome and is one of several attractive, historic hill towns to the south-east of Rome. Frascati is noted particularly for its local white wine and is a very popular excursion for residents in Rome both on weekends and also trips out for dinner in the evening. The town has its own cathedral and has attractive medieval streets.

We have booked two ...performances on Thursday, 29th March beginning at 5pm.

The first performance will be in the Piazza Del Mercato (Market Square) where we will perform in the open air prior to moving to the Mura del Valadier (Valadier Walls). The space, within the old city walls, has been converted to a museum/performance venue. There is currently an exhibition at the site dedicated to women's history.
