Hope all our Driftwood friends and neighbors enjoyed the 15th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival in Downtown Hollywood this weekend. For those who missed it, here is the Mayor and Commissioners in action tossing green beads to the crowd. Check out the aim that our own Commissioner Kevin Biederman displays. You almost want to reach out to your monitor to catch one!

The Driftwood Civic Association invites you to find out what’s going on in our community at this monthly gathering of neighbors. Tuesday's meeting will follow up last month’s featured speaker’s presentation on a proposed general obligation bond by the City of Hollywood. We want to find out what’s important to you! Please come prepared to share your ideas and concerns so we can identify a clear vision of our neighborhood’s priorities to share with the City of Hollywood. As always we will have Code Enforcement, our Police NTL Officer and Commissioners at our monthly meeting.

TO OUR COMMUNITY, PARENTS, KIDS, AND FAMILIES: The horrific tragedy that occurred at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has impacted our entire community ...and beyond. There were many heroic stories from students to teachers and first responders.

As we all begin to process this event and cope with our grief, we know it will not be easy. Talk to your kids. Talk to your parents. Talk to your teachers and school counselors -- and know that HPD is here for you. Keeping our students safe is a priority. Although we have not received any threats in Hollywood, we have taken precautionary measures and will have additional officers patrolling Hollywood schools, in addition to our school resource officers.

Our school resource officers are trained and prepared for critical incidents like this. But we need your eyes and ears as well. If you think (even a slight feeling) that something is not right, let your school resource officer know. Your SRO is here for you. Don't ever hesitate to ask us questions or talk to us. We will always listen.

Commissioner Kevin Biederman, District 5 Hollywood Florida

Hello everyone, hope you're well.
City crews are doing damage assessment tomorrow morning and beginning a "push" operation to push to the roadside the trees are blocking traffic mobility. After push aside, and clearing/opening roadways, major, then minor, there will be the beginning of debris removal. All residents are being asked to place all household waste and storm debris (including blue and gray garbage bins) at the FRONT swale of their house, not in the alleys. Alleys need to be clear for FPL.

As of right now, the county curfew remains till 10am, (although roadways will start seeing lots of people heading to work and to check on their businesses tomorrow.)

Public Schools are closed indefinitely.

Boil water order should be lifted by Wed/Thursday. Watermain breaks were identified, tomorrow need to be isolated, then tested at lab and then boil water order can be lifted....

Police ordered lots of barricades to help with warning of traffic hazard and detour/roadway organization.

HPD is restricting access to the barrier island until it can be identified as safe to travel on. (Lots of sand and flooding that needs to recede)

Citywide, Lots of trees, fences, awnings, gutters, damage to signage, shingle roofs, etc., but we will pull through.
