He is considering short-term warranty of hotspots, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut. He they're not sure but he said, and just we are looking at a hundred and 11000 cases across the country. And more than two 2000 of them are in New York alone and 260 - three that 90 - eight total, there was only five yesterday or 40 - six of Iowa's 90 - nine counties that's now at the virus so 30 percent a day about yesterday and oh, please and saying. Stay safe. wash your hand. today we're so happy a webcam today getting she is the chair. Hamilton County Democratic I'll sit back to you. Thanks Brent for that testing is gonna be so we need widespread test and contesting we need to know what's going on. With this virus in a meaningful that that the testing and more rapidly, you mentioned just like we do with the flu today. 50 minutes to find out where we're so thanks for information Brent do you wanna walk to Page Kathy Getting Hamilton County Chair Party Cathy Are you with us? Hi? yeah. I'd like to add something about the coveted I too go ahead that a meeting on Freya webinar zoom meeting and I work for a community gency and they were saying that food Bank are in dire need. Food typical wisdom if you're giving a food Bank is to give money, but since houses are limited book buys, it's better now to give there's still they're still able to buy bullies and snacks, but you know, healthy, vegetable and fruits that some is a little bit more difficult right now if you extra dollars and you have to a Bank now has to go to the Street called them and could arrange tempered drop. Off the state this other foods in Hamilton County if we wanted folks to donate and those communities can you tell us what we would reach out to well. Yes there is optimal operate is merely funded Food Bank, but then there are food banks. This is happening all I actually conviction agency that they work for is for numerous Cabinet Northwest. So it's in Jefferson as a Mobile food Bank be minutes all of the food when they. Had served so they are seeing triple the amount of that request and then in the previous in this month, and it's no yeah, it's a need out there so we'll circle with you but there's some specific places. We can go to post that to our Facebook live because our website so we can let folks know in Hamilton County is where you're to let people know they can donate and so it will speak over then you know what what hasn't been a? we know anyway, a positive case and in Hamilton County, but you know what's going on relative. Preparing opting into the situation well, I think like many counties he were staying in place. If you're sick, don't go to work many of you like adviser meetings are nine, you can see not know that'll. Yeah. Yeah. yeah. No. I appreciate that and and we had a meeting up in County earlier or maybe late last year to talk about small business development. What's going on the small business work with small business? Still, I am information and stories back from folks in Hamilton County and Wesley and Jewel and Berg Ellsworth and others that are looking for some relief and some provides I know power up, Youth and Anti-pollution Anti-drug coalition directly about that program. Please sure excellent it was start with the key 90 - eight leave and since then has grown. From effectively because it's so active, it is tripled not tripled. It is sometimes the budget that it was when it first started it started out with 10 million dollar hundred million dollars each given out to community the US that A plan about how they address and substance abuse you and I really. many strategies you have to involve people across the community. It's not a one year Grant Earth brand. It's specifically if you compose it five -year Grant, a non compete you compete the first team compete for four years after and it gives you an existing bit bring in many people you have to have 12 sex involved in that you do so there's a lot of cooperation and collaboration which sectors. Okay, What's the example of some of those sectors that brings the sectors? I should be able to are youth organizations the facility business communication health civic groups and as ations agency goal agencies and I probably I forgotten to I probably said about the idea of what the sectors are that with we need to collaborate as you mentioned schools were yeah. yeah. and you know it's I really since I began. For 14 and it makes sense and the idea is you know we all get a little bit better at something. We all get a better and when we when I like about this it the communities look how they're gonna solve the problem upcoming and saying what you're going to do you know it's best for you to allow the community to find their own way and develop a pattern a plan. And the resources that they have within the Unity. Yeah, and that's awesome cuz as I've been the state in this United Senate I've been talent and and it's a group doing good work. that's to work with rule side of telling me to be doing but listen to what we can be doing. We can be doing with the hospitals on mental health. There's we're doing with those that are that are the resisters of the disease of addiction. how we wrestle with that and for tools and resources and I'm from on high it should be. Good for communities to put together programs that will work best, which is very important and it was gonna add that sometimes you know how helping part of the system and the other part of it, but you know, I'm just gonna talk about business at least being on first child experience and you know it's about it's about stress during child and how early childhood in let me think. This high child health element I've been is like invest in the community and it impacts community development development and so I have him when we talked adverse child experiences. This is you know it before and more of these adverse childhood experiences problems increase for are more likely illegally great happen chances of some kind of health concern is greater and so that's an expense for business. You're probably more like. That be add from work have abs and quizzes a problem. you're probably six times more likely by shouldn't and and three point six times had serious problems and you can start addressing putting some store will help children's mental health child care so that there's more in adults and child's life because that's the biggest actors that help children to build resilient caring relationship that that. Insistent caring for bringing that we learn through rips no doubt about it all that is so interconnected how would families build well so kids have a better brains? how we have court systems, whether be early childhood education and education how we supportive daycare and with about this in Hamilton County earlier with the small business holes are out there and a big part of that child care and then what we can do for folks that are falling behind all important for us. I'm very happy. We had a chance to have this conversation. I'm gonna let you go for now like have you back cuz I like more about the things that you're doing up there and staying in touch. How covert is going to ask you more about what we should be doing with our our friends that are battling addiction as well. there's so much that we need to be talking to let you join us. Cathy. I appreciate it brought back to you. Jeremy and we'll get you what we'd love to have more just a couple of quick here. folks. CBD may be changing in a few days where they're gonna folks wear my life. that is not the state right now, but that is what is being taught out instead of just groups or medical staff. So that's what I talk about right now. Joe Biden tweeted out no way. Cross testing treatment from our finger since Minister of Great Britain, Corona virus I was at Corona virus patients and hands with every wash your hands distancing our next guest. we are so grateful to have Reverend Sarah Garrett. She is running for standing right here in West Des Moines Eddie to you and Sarah Thanks Sarah Welcome to the cage. Hey great to have you you and I had met a few years back and I had a chance to come. Watch you in action Preach. I think Central Presbyterian might have been the place that right some job. They wanna talk to you about it. First of all. how are you sensing these communities or handling the crisis from your vantage point? It's hard everybody had to change how they do their work and it really it's happening across in every walk of life, but faith communities are really struggling because so much of the work that sisters other fears do it's gathering people together doing things when I want an empty and so I'm seeing a vivid coming about a local have switched online at Sorge creative how they can still contact me physically close so it's been really encourage. That sudden and necessary creativity, but then also exhausting about how am I gonna do my work in an entirely new way anyway that I've never done it. Yeah. No, it's been a challenge to imagine the feeds always doing some weeks and having people come to them throughout to faith communities, sometimes the elderly in the home baffle they need to be seen and doing all the other functions that are part of running a church. It's a bit self activity going to keep the business moving and keep the community moving along very managing I will check on the floor. I get a note from my parents who are ask others they will go to Mass amount if they could, But now there's gonna be a text or call me mom called the other days. I just saw this great Mass within Detroit, she sent to the priest. I'm thinking a lot of the century services are going on and getting to meet and hear from people who probably normally in here from getting some messages parts of the country. So there's some buses within the the many challenges that are out for us. That's your campaign. Sarah what's going on with that and how you how you adapting there also distance. well, you know like I said everything so work lay about talking with groups of doing a lot of gathering churches, faith communities so that will gone online and on the phone Emails and in my campaign All of in person, but he has stopped for doing a weekly meal on Sunday afternoons at three on our Facebook page, she won can pop it zoom and we've been experimenting with ways to connect with voters that are not for since so we are we in for door knocking had to scrap all of that. So. Today, I was actually walking through my neighborhood dropping off packages. Those for some of my wanted to help out just on the door, making a phone call they would come to their door and wave at me. I'd be on the sidewalk. Maybe we'd have a summer station and you know we're gonna start doing allowing a lot of my work and out of my campaign has been checking with people on the fine through video conferencing way to connect it. It's really see the people that you know and you missed because really lonely and it doesn't, but I'm a pretty. Outgoing person I encourage you to people and visiting folks and I'm really missed right now. That's been yeah. No. yeah. We're all experiencing. I'm with you and I've seen you out there in action because Alex is that way that outgoing I loved being a diner and more kids at a pub and or in Boon or agent or or the church. We're visiting churches every Sunday where we pulled all shaking getting hands with some folks that don't wanna bend your ear what they think and not doing this like we are today and it was perfect again. I think thank you for joining at least we're trying to get the best we can. To an unfortunate situation, yeah, an honest thing for me has been right now. that campaigning is important. It's really important who's in leadership, but my word needs for people Largest food pantry network area of a nursing home. So I just there has been a lot of energy going towards trying to help people connect with they need to get by well. It's a really hard time for a lot of your last guest in her context, they referring kind of country network is cash wanna miss the number. People are coming to our warehouse. We want them to miss items that have been told that go out into the community. some concern about things being contaminated and then spread spread your surface contact we've had to change that. We're distributing food who can help help to use to evolve as the risk was in our community and so that's been pretty stressful. there's just a lot of real things to attend to and painting it matters, but it hasn't been my primary. For the last two years, so yeah and and you're multitasker like a lot of us learned a lot of hats Liza's Council. I'm assuming you're talking about correct. Yeah. we've been at quite a bit. do that and I agree with this so so Cathy's was a little bit different and they're they're looking for things and in Hamilton County. some of the other counties we have been buying powers, but if we're donate cash rather than bring bag of groceries, which you know, we always feel better about just like we're doing more continue to remind people that were King for very religious count. well and one of the things we're encouraged to be thinking about it reach out to your elected leaders, the state and federal officials. There are a lot of nonprofits, a lot of faith communities that are trying to help their neighbor right now, a lot of people just reaching out on their own. those efforts are they're there, but they're not so they're not to not really address the immunity and we need those big felten programs like which we always think about suit stands Medicaid expansion unemployment benefits we can get support out to the communicate those networks already and then you expand in a glass. Because the need has grown so significantly it has, but honestly talking to the folks at D Mark and Food Bank and and other food across the state. we're still seeing more need of so even before Coven arguing that the economy is not reach the people that need it that way because it seems still serving more and more people assuming you are sensing that isn't working we we had a crisis already on our terms of how many of our neighborhood to feed their families and it's just really brings. Out into the open so and I and I come to them we do because of Moses to go out and help folks less fortunate us and sometimes our friends on the other side of the aisle that should be in the world that the churches in the world that are take care of folks like that that's efficient that misses the Mark doing as has the agency as a community in the state and country and that shaped my faith values am I talking for a minute. How how your faith has impacted you? I we should encourage them on the other side of the aisle to take a better look at the moral equivalency of what we're doing to you know I really. Government is another way they all work together for of our neighbors, but often we talk about government, but it's really that's how it works is working together really big way to make a difference in our community and so efforts of faith, it's significantly important, but it's not coordinated see a lot of little their own things like communicating with each other to help they're putting and when you have lots of different places, you can just a little bit very hard or struggling. That's through a lot of. Put their all the pieces it's exhausting and space for whatever we can to meet the need and let's together greater good and I thought through through government through our policy. That's how we say I started as a master. now I work in the night world and I can see the limbic both of those ways of helping and came to really realize that policy was a way to at that, broader and a way that has equity to and then. A lot more and lift all people and make sure that everyone has a basic sipping and so my faith is pushed me into the world and then and how because there's so many I work together. That's the lesson of this time is we're when we worked were better when we care for all of our neighbors and make sure everyone has a basic stamp living and that we have them some place to help those who need it because in this time right now we can all need help. It's it's really important that those items nice, so we can act again when we need it no doubt as you mentioned early in that was this other group we remember as being something other than. You're absolutely right and that division was was was developed purposely for almost 40 years. Now. Reagan started to create that and and folks have continued to actuate this other entity. it's will help us out to get within our fees within our charitable organizations within our government. It's all hours that's all I should in between there and it's it's heartening that throughout their purpose to create that division and fear about that spend to our detriment quite honestly really wanna help out avoidable people. Meaningful, I gotta ask you if if you have any questions or today before you know just where you can help right now. Eddie I I you know I'm looking for it my final, a lot of people and just if you have some examples, Yeah and I've always lived at because I've always seen people across with Sarah that I knew were struggling and and I talked about my my proteins and I've talked about this as well. One of the top 10 don't have any struggles. They are smiling. I'm there just so grateful. folks are so grateful for life and and And I come to refresh knowing that there are people out there in the world that are doing struggling out there, but still have their own and I get that that lift every day as I began to people across eight during this this crisis. obviously we're all gonna there are people help other well-intentioned folks whether whether a home for folks that only personal protect moment they need on the front lines or donating see how to go how to still give blood My daughter works in the Center as a nurse and she wanna come in a plasma. How do we that they keep things going? Seeing people doing work, I'm also trying to be safe state I see before me Sarah and I feel that that's part of of of the exceptionalism, even though we've had had our our bubbles going on for too long but resilient people Brazilian people because after because of our brothers and sisters, our Muslim brothers and sisters in the Hindu community and many others out there and even some that aren't written necessary virtual have been able to lean on and to give them hope we also I'm I'm I'm I. I know that there's some leaders out there and you might. One of them and I thought could be another. They wanna go on lead times of crisis. They better hope and then we're being out of our current leader and and I've been doing that regard but up the sun's gonna come with this very smooth to get there and once we get through enough, we'll get back. I'm gonna get our country back on track, but that that's what drives us everyday. I wanna make sure we're hopeful we wanna make sure reach and making sure they're doing okay to let them know that bar ahead. they'll have some tough front of us but but we need to make sure that we're all working through this together. we're gonna rise and at the end of the day, we're gonna. Better country and a better community because this challenge we're going through. Thank you Eddie and you know, talk to you and your families. I know you got young people about the good work as you're going through the community looking towards which again one day in person and we'll be in touch for sure. Sarah so thank you for joining us today and and best luck on the campaign. I think we might even be later on this week so again next week. So yeah. so we're talking about more about faith and politics you so much for joining us yesterday. Alright. take care. Buh bye Big Brent. It's back to you sir Huge thanks today to Cathy Getting a chair of Hamilton Course Sarah Iowa dot com. is our website go. Check it out at Institute. There's thank you for another program PM Faith and discussion with Morrow at Mental Health Advocate and associate pastor for the Corinthian Baptist Church. Rob Johnson. Now Rob is a tornado full of wonderful life energy. I got spend a little bit of time on a trip. We did before all locked down here and he's just a plastic person. I'm looking fashion with. To least tune in for that before I close out some of the share from my State Representative Jennifer Comfort, he's associate Professor Brad Drake, a professor now at Drake and state Rep. She posted last night, said. I just heard a friend's parents refuse to follow space and seeing recommends parents went to the mall to the grocery friend's House and we've been through worse than this were mine. They sided news reports and statements. This was overblown friend's dad, 70 - two. The other just died in the ICU alone on a ventilator. He's allowed to see him so if They don't think you can get it or think your room think about how comfortable you would be dying alone in a hot. If you won't do it yourself on a ventilator alone, knowing your kids and spouse come say goodbye that is stark representatives about singing your distance in your hands and staying healthy day folks. That's it for me and so and so on that right so and I'm very pointed. there's a network out. There's a whole a whole group of flair kinda minimize what we have going on for the sake of the dog and this whole candy. Has been talking about a battled rule and and the leader out there by cuz for him and it's all really about him in particular and there's a group of folks that they're following alongside and that's enough of like talking about and the shows like that out there he's trying to sell you not to take this seriously and I'm started this 1010 thousand deaths within the last 60 days. We're moving towards that that that that same kind of possibility here in the United about the sanctity of life time that we that we had. To convince people that there's gonna be okay that you're gonna go back to work by days before Easter. please we need this to the experts that that's not the case. that's not that's not gonna be the right path forward and that's also not even to canonic issues issues that are so honest are saying we get in front of us trying to move half of us back to work actually gonna is gonna drag it out further and further down and cause more and more of this country in the weeks and months, let's go buddy. we need to really have bold leaders today they wanna do this right. Hair every day talking about this, our leaders, both our governor and her best, but we need to keep action and definitely the federal level and events that we need a new senator because our current centers continues to stand alongside actually the weakest leader in the history of this company can't continue with that so on that summer note for today, we'll be back tomorrow to visit with you hopefully I need to our days until then you have a wonderful wonderful evening. Stay safe.
