Hey everyone! Quick update on my build: My board is pretty much ready. I have an internal cooling system (I’ll make another post for that), I’ve redone the mast clamp (for the millionth time) and below you can see the motor/gearbox mount was redone too so that there are no screws but instead “keys” to lock everything in place! Unlike the screws, this doesn’t allow for any movement. I love it.
Hey everyone! Long time, no see! Lemme catch you up as things have progressed!
So I've basically "forked" Pacificmeister's build, meaning, I'm doing my own version based on his designs, but I've made some enhancements from lessons he's learned along the way. Some of those lessons include temperature issues with the ESC and cable heating issues with smaller cables like 10-12awg without high-temperature support. So in my build, we are actually going with a closed-loop liquid co...oled solution that uses a radiator, fans, and coolant to keep the electronics and batteries cool. Not sure this has been done on the DIY efoil builds yet. I've also modified a number of parts to make slight differences for handling larger gauge cables.
I would love to show you the end result, but we're still putting this together. I'm trying to make this as low profile as possible so the box on the board and associated wires don't look ridiculous. So I should have some fun pictures to show you this time next week. Along with a pretty complete, ready to ride board! So stay tuned and I'll try and make a video to accompany the next update!
Finally got the motor assembly stuff done! Had to fork pacificmeister’s build slightly at this point. I had two options for connecting the motor to the gearbox: (a) purchase a split bushing to fit inside the 9.5mm gearbox to have it adapt to the 8mm motor shaft, or (b) edit the motor-to-gearbox mount to support a 8-to-10mm converter and create a tiny 9.5mm shaft from a 10mm. I went with the latter because it didn’t require a purchase. So I’m finally ready to put this in the a...luminum pipe and move to other tasks.
I did find a problem with the pacificmeister nose cone and mast clamp. It doesn’t like 3x8awg wire. There is simply no room. I think I’ll come up with another front piece and release the STL’s on www.efoil.builders when I’m done.

Headed to San Francisco for the remainder of the week! Still trying to perfect the CAD drawlings for the Naish mast. I will post the finished work. Funny enough, pacificmeister and I work in the same building when we’re in SF! How coincidental is that!? More to come next week!
Sunday was productive! ESC is officially 100% wired to digital readout, batteries, and UBEC/receiver. More parts were printed that fit better around the mast. And we drilled some holes into the mast to allow the wires.
Next, we are waiting on different motor shafts needed to complete the the drive part and seal it. Then we will focus attention on the board and mounting stuff there. And finally prop/duct design!
