Here's a short timelapse while I was waiting for the rain to stop. Note the light changes, increase in water flow and my lens fogging up. A bit short - maybe should have slowed the frame rate. I'll try for a longer one this weekend.

Rho Ophiuchi - this is a crop from a multi-panel mosaic completed last year. This is my favourite area of the night sky. Love the colours - reflection nebulae (light reflection from stars in the area), dark nebulae (not illuminated by anything) and emission nebulae (red areas of hydrogen fluorescence from UV light of nearby stars)
Canon 6D (full spectrum), Zeiss 135mm lens. ISO3200, f2.5, 4x3s, 4x8s, 4x30s and 8x90s. Tracked using and Astrotrac. Astronomik 'L' clip in filter.

Point Arkwright at dawn as the high cirrus clouds light up. One of the best sunrises we had late last year

Three planets against the stars of Scorpius, with our galactic core in line of sight. A party of stellar goodness - and you're on the guest list!

Can you pick which planets and where in this image?

It was shot two weeks ago. This is a deliberate effort to show relative star/planet brightness and colour - something that is missed in most astro photos. The red/magenta areas are hydrogen alpha emission nebulae.

Lunar Eclipse - 31st Jan 2018 (Haze suppressed)
This is the last shot I was able to take before getting thwarted by clouds. The haze around the moon was caused by cirrus cloud. This was about 20 minutes before totality.
Carton 60mm f7 (420mm focal length) refractor telescope + 2x barlow lens, Canon 6D, ISO 400, 1/160s, 1/40s, 1/10s, 0.4s and 1.6s exposures HDR blended, Astrotrac (for tracking).

Near full moon prepping for the lunar eclipse in two days.
Found my old Carton 60mm f7 (420mm focal length) $100 refractor that my parents bought me for my 11th birthday (33 years ago!). Also found a barlow lens and camera adaptor, so I decided to rig it up. I am pleased with the results!

Orion - The Hunter

A constellation dominating our night skies at this time of the year.

This is a mosaic of several image panels covering most of the Orion constellation taken at Ballendean, NSW. A thin veil of cirrus cloud did some some cool things with the stars.

...

The red cloudy areas are nebulas of ionised hydrogen gas excited by the UV radiation from near by stars, which gives a red glow (fluorescence). Unfortunately, our eyes have low sensitivity to dim red light at night time and, like red aurora, is almost invisible to the naked eye. However, it does show up in long exposure photography.

Canon 6D (full spectrum modified), Astronomik 'L' XL-Clip filter, Zeiss 135mm f2 (at f2.5), ISO 3200, each panel contained 4x3s, 4x8s, 4x30s and 8x90s exposures stacked. Some Ha with same lens and settings using a Astronomik 12nm Ha XL-Clip filter with 8x210s per panel. Darks and flats applied to all data.

Venus and Moon Dawn Panorama
This shot was taken back in 2014 at first light with a thin layer of Cirrus Cloud, which would later cover the sky and light up before sunrise. It was an awesome morning!

Cows Chillin in the Shade
Cows in the shade of a tree taken using infrared light. The cool thing about shooting infrared is that it is suited to the harsh daylight when conventional photography becomes difficult to get good results.
Taken near Lake Maroon using a full spectrum modified Canon 6D with an EF16-35 f4L (at 16mm) and Astronomik 642nm clip in IR filter.
