As I mentioned in my earlier post, I am on holiday. While I thought being away from work would mean higher productivity for EM, sadly that hasn’t happened. My brain seems to be taking a holiday from all possible productive work. However, the good thing about money is that I am nowhere close to being the first person to have thought of it. I have been fortunate to have been spending some quality time with my six (or six and one quarter, as he now puts it) year old nephew. On my holiday, we have been playing, looking around, sightseeing, eating yummy food and just spending quality time. On one of the days out, we were waiting at the food court of a mall for my sister to come pick us up. [ 509 more words ]
Another Friday and another book. This time I finally read a book by one of the really famous money guys – Dave Ramsey! However, since debt is not the single point focus of this blog, I decided to swerve a little from the popular favorite Dave Ramsey book of the Total Money Makeover and instead go for a multi-dimensional book by him – Dave Ramsey’s Complete Guide to Money. It’s that time of the year again when the office is beset by rumors, whispers and overall a lot of anxiety. For a long time now, April to me has meant a time period of appraisals and the culmination of a year’s hard work into one number. Appraisals also go hand-in-hand with the annual increments. However, as per this Harvard Business review article… [ 492 more words ]

Since the time I have been in the personal finance blogosphere, one thing I have tried hard to adopt is a conscious spending of my money. I am not someone who believes in extreme frugality. Even if I try to go there, my husband literally wrestles me out of it. However, me and my husband have now both adopted the idea of conscious spending whole-heartedly. [ 1,633 more word ]

It is probably the season of book releases in the world of Personal Finance Blogs. One of the most talked about, heatedly discussed book for some time now has been the book by the lady behind the blog - Frugalwoods. Honestly, I like my money blogs to be well rounded and talking about all things money. With this blog though, as the name suggests, “frugality” plays a very big role. [ 572 more words ]
Never respect men merely for their riches, but rather for their philanthropy; we do not value the sun for its height, but for its use. – Gamaliel Bailey Growing up in a third world country like India, it is almost impossible to not see the suffering and the impoverishment of a major part of the world’s population. Accumulating all the money in the world can make you feel miserable, whereas giving money, even for those with less income, can not only improve other lives but have a residual glow for the giver as well. One of the biggest and most popular financial products which actually has the might and the size to shake economies is Home Loan. Any rate change for home loans makes the front page of newspapers. The inability of a large number of people to pay it back in 2007 in the US was enough to cause a worldwide recession. You can then see what an important financial product a Home Loan is. The book that I picked up to talk about today is – The little book that builds wealth. The sub-title of the book puts forth what you can expect from the book quite clearly – The knockout formula for finding great investments. The book is written by Pat Dorsey and was first published in 2008. At that time he was in the middle of his 11-year tenure as the Director of Equity Research at Morningstar. [ 1,747 more word ]
For a long time, I had been considering the idea of exploring the multiple facets of money in the life stage of dating. Granted, my ideas and personal experience about dating might be a little outdated considering it’s now almost 7 years since I first started dating my husband and almost 4 since we got married. Apps like tinder did not even exist (at least in India) when I was single. [ 879 more words ]
The first financial product which I tackled at length here on Elementum Money was Life Insurance. If you are looking at detailed information on the product, then you may want to look at the 5-post #LIMonday series that I started within the first month of the blog. However, over the last month or two, I have realized the merit of a single comprehensive post outlining details of a financial product for my readers to have basic information about it in one go. This free email course that I am working on seems to require much more effort than I had imagined. So, expect a delay of about a week from the earlier planned launch of coming week.
Till then how about I reveal some details? Like the fact that it will involve one enlightening email in your inbox for 5 days and cover basics of managing money, insurance, investments, loans and taxation.
Oh, and I am also working on single-page printables for every lesson, which would list down ...main points to remember.
Sounds good?
You know the best thing about being a blogger? Anybody can have an opinion, without necessarily having a degree or educational qualification to support their expertise in the field, and when done consistently over time, they end up being considered experts. So, in the personal finance blogosphere, there are actually very few bloggers who have any technical education per se, but their expertise mostly comes from personal experience. [ 953 more words ]
