Chairman’s Report – 2016
Dear fellow members:
This year marks the completion of six years of our existence. As we enter seventh year of our service to the needy; I feel deeply humbled and indebted to you all for your continuous support. On behalf of all the committee members I express my deep gratitude and present to you a summary of our activities in the year 2016....
Total donations received amounted to $1,153,255.84 and the donations paid out to $842,953.00. This left a surplus of $310,302.84 for the year under review.
With the accumulated surplus of $909,000.00 over last six years the balance as of 31st Dec. 2016 comes to $1,219,826.00
The major recipients of our donations were:
Have a Heart Foundation, Bangalore
Human Education and Liberation, Tamilnadu (Skill Training Centre)
Jeev Sewa Sansthan, Bhopal
Milaan Be the Change, Lucknow
Narayana Hirudayalaya Charitable Trust, Bangalore
Om Namah Sewa Trust, Ahmedabad (Education)
Sankalp India Foundation, Bangalore
Swadhar IDWC, Pune (Education)
Vishwa Jagriti Mission Trust, Pune (Education)
We Care Trust, Mumbai
The breakdown of donations is as follows:
$455,000 towards Heart surgeries, cancer treatment, BMT surgeries and free medicines (54%),
$148,000.00 towards Skill Training (18%)
$237,000.00 towards Education including Mid-day meal program (28%)
While our primary objectives are to provide education and skill training to erase poverty, we have lagged behind for two reasons:
First, the applicants are not able to fulfill our conditions of having clearance to receive foreign funds. Secondly the balance sheets of some applicants do not justify further funding from us.
You will notice the higher percentage of our donations in the medical field. This is due to compassionate donors who have specified their preference for treating a particular illness.
This situation prompts me to appeal to each one of you to assist us in identifying institutions/organizations devoted to imparting education to the under privileged and the children living in the slum areas of their cities. On your next visit to your hometown in India please check out some social organizations and refer them to us for further follow-up.
The task before us is colossal and each one of us must contribute and assist in whatever way one can. I appeal to you to please reach out to other members of the Indian diaspora and make them aware of our activities. Together we shall march forward and attempt to erase the curse of poverty.
I take this opportunity to thank our chairman, Mr. Babu Bharwani for his guidance. He has not been keeping well and we pray for his early recovery.
I also thank all member of the board for their active participation and full support.
My sincere thanks to our auditor Fung, Yu & Co. for their complimentary services and look forward to their continued support.
Looking forward to a more service oriented year,
