New website is live: www.erol-alkan-reworks.com
Throughout the 14 or so years I've been remixing other artists music, one thing has remained constant: There is never one single approach that works better than another. The creative process can be a complete mystery, but being able to manage your creativity, even when things aren't quite going your way, is the only real skill one can have, I feel that's all I'm able to share with anybody else. I used to spend days, weeks, and s...ometime months going round in circles, and ending up nowhere. Looking back, those mixes were the ones in which I feel aren't my best. As a result, and through trial and error, I don't feel I became any better as a remixer, artist or producer, I just became better at making decisions, having confidence and trusting my instinct.
We've built a website which details the approach I took to 10 of my reworks, which were part of the 'Reworks Volume 1' compilation. You can listen to me talk about the technical and creative approach, as well as to my relationship with some of the artists who allowed me to mess with their work. Imagine it as 10 mini podcasts.
I hope this can help any of you who are starting out making music, or have an interest in the creative process, even if you're not familiar with my work.

This video is 4 years old, but I still dig is as much as the day I first saw it. For me, the music of 'A Hold On Love' evoked the feeling of chasing a moment from the past, but knowing it may never happen again. This video (directed by Daniel Brereton) captured this beautifully. Feel free to share your own experiences in the comments section below..
Happy Valentines Day. Erol X
We've just re-pressed the ‘To The Rhythm’ back-print T, screen printed on 100% organic dyed cotton shirts.
That's part of my vinyl collection there, I'm currently deep in digitizing some selected vinyl for the March & April tour, there's a lot to go thru.. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
I've just added another hours worth of music to my 'Bugged In Selection' Spotify playlist. It's now up to 7 hours long, 99 tracks of music I play when opening my all night long club sets. Click through and follow for regular updates

That's it, my run of shows over on BBC Radio 6 Music has come to an end. I was initially ask to fill in for Gilles Peterson over January and ended up hosting 5 shows in total, including the prestigious NYE slot. All of these shows can still be listened to on the BBC iPlayer, as well as the most recent and final show (possibly my favourite to host of them all) here below.
It's been a real joy to share music with you all, and I've been incredibly flattered by all your comments... and feedback. For those of you asking where I am playing next, my worldwide live dates (including the 'To The Rhythm' UK & Ireland tour) are available on this page, maybe I'll see some of you there. Many of my future Dj shows are 'All Night Long' or extended sets, meaning I can play music right across my musical spectrum, very much like these 6 Music shows have allowed me to do.
Thanks to the BBC for inviting me on, and to each of you who have listened.

Heading to Newcastle's Cosmic Ballroom, playing all night long as part of 'To The Rhythm' on Easter Thursday 29th March. As with all the other shows, I'll be operating the lights as well as the music. Looking forward to returning to the North East.

You can listen back to my latest show on BBC Radio 6 Music from 20th January, where I sat in again for Gilles Peterson and put together a 3 hour show featuring music from many corners of my record collection. Contains a short mixtape of some new club music (including a record made by a 10 year old kid), check out the full tracklist and listen back on the iPlayer in the link below. Next week is my final show as Gilles returns in February, tune in. x
