The Newseum is dedicated to the freedom and rights of the press. Then why is it hosting a talk by Israel's former IDF spokesperson, Avital Leibovich, who vigorously defended the IDF's targeted killing of 2 Palestinian journalists during Israel's 2012 assault on Gaza? Human Rights Watch (HRW) found that these assassinations violated international law that protects journalists.
Join JVP, CODEPINK: Women For Peace and the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation to stand for Palestinian and journalist rights. We will pass out fact sheets about Avital Leibovich before and after the event. Feel free to attend the talk to ask the Newseum why they are hosting someone who, according to HRW, was complicit in war crim⋯⋯es against journalists.
Arrive at 3:30 to flyer+protest before event. If you want to attend the 4:00pm talk to ask tough questions, you need to RSVP (see link bellow). We will flyer+protest after the event between 5 and 5:30 pm.
