THE SUICIDE LIE. This weeks video blog becomes very personal as I takes on the a very real issue in my own family and ministry - suicide. The behavior and act…

Depression is hard to talk about but right now it's a massive problem. Every 30 seconds someone takes there own life. This teenager gives great insight to the struggle.

Kevin Breel didn't look like a depressed kid: team captain, at every party, funny and confident. But he tells the story of the night he realized that -- to save his own life -- he needed to say four simple words.

Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden, has died by suicide at age 52.

Please read and share with your networks, parents, and anyone "talking" about and watching "13 Reasons Why".

A good post. and yes, they ARE watching it, and talking about it, in the thousands.

If you want to talk to your teens about the Netflix hit, here are some good places to start.

Where has this been all our lives?

We all know mental health is a critical piece to leading a full, productive life. Yet...…/how-to-train-your-brain-to-go-pos…/…

Interesting article about positive thinking by Loretta Breuning, PhD, author of The Science of Positivity and Habits of a Happy Brain.

Our brain is not designed to create happiness, as much as we wish it were so. Our brain evolved to promote survival. You can end up with a lot of unhappy chemicals in your quest to stimulate the happy ones, especially near the end of a stressful workday.

The Wellness Loft

Ever wondered about therapy? Here is my 2 cents about therapy at the loft. #wellnesslofttherapy

The Community Resiliency Model (CRM) was designed to address this very need. Access to mental health professionals is all too often a privilege for more econom...ically resourced. CRM honors and respects the rich human capitol in all communities and enhances capacity for peer-to-peer support! All of us at Trauma Resource Institute are excited as we move into 2017 with a number of projects that will continue to bring these approaches forward! Stay tuned for updates...

If your really not fine, please share it with someone. And share it with someone who cares, not just on social media. Sometimes we just need reminded that things wont always be like they are are now. Always give people a little piece of HOPE.

On today's World Mental Health Day, we need to share these 7 mental health myths that entrepreneurs and employees alike need to debunk ASAP (via the International Business Times):

An estimated one in five people in the U.S., or 43.8 million people, have mental health problems in a given year.

Don't be afraid to start a dialogue:

Depression is the leading cause of disability in the world. But because it’s a mental illness, it can be a lot harder to understand than, say, high cholesterol.

In my daughter's first year, me, the quick pep talker, had some pretty dark thoughts. Like driving straight into an oncoming semi. I thought about that more tha...n once.

I can relate so much to the dread this writer talks about. Dreading morning and dreading the evening hours. Dreading the sleep training fight throughout the night.

And so I drank, which I eventually realized made everything 1000x worse, but at the time it seemed like a great escape.

This is hard to type and to scary post but this story is trending for a reason. I shudder now to think about one too many nights where I had two too many drinks and could've just...not woken up. Leaving my precious ones to face this big scary world without me. I'm so glad I told my family and got help, and got sober.

I hope this story emboldens someone reading this to do the same. Tell your family! Tell your bestie! Tell your doctor! Someone tonight needs to read the words You Are Not Alone and You Are Not A Bad Mother over and over and over again.

And so I will type them.

You are not alone.

You are not a bad mother.

You are not alone.

You are not a bad mother.

You are not alone.

You are not a bad mother.

Dear one You are not alone and

You are not a bad mother.

We love you. Get help.

One more time for the folks in the back: Depression is a serious disease.

“Your friends can protect you from depression and help you recover from it.” (from 2015)

A new study shows that a healthy mood can spread through friend groups.

It's is back to school week. It is tough week for some kiddos. May we ALL help them feel powerful as their routine changes.

School anxiety isn’t a case of ‘won’t’ it’s a case of ‘can’t’. Empowering kids is the most powerful way to turn it around. Here's how to do that.
