At Facebook our mission is to connect the world, including connecting people with the information they want and need. That’s why we place such value on journalism: it gives us facts and ideas in order to understand society, and better understand each other.
The Facebook Journalism Project is designed to support journalism and news literacy, and to serve as a hub for journalists and publishers to learn and share.
Pillars of the Facebook Journalism Project
The Facebook Journalism Project will work in three ways:
Collaborative Development of News Products
We'll deepen our collaborative relationship with news partners, connecting them with our product and engineering teams so we can build together.
Training and Tools for Journalists
We're introducing new resources for newsgathering and reporting, including training courses in 9 languages, and a certificate program via Poynter Institute for Media. We're also making CrowdTangle free to partners, and we're increasing our commitment to First Draft Partner Network to verify eyewitness reporting from around the world.
Training and Tools for Everyone
We'll partner with organizations to better understand and promote news literacy both on and off our platform. And we'll continue our efforts to identify and reduce the spread of news hoaxes.
