Trending

Overview

Trending helps people discover timely and relevant conversations about the news that they care about. On desktop, Trending is located at the top right-hand side of your News Feed. On mobile, Trending can be accessed by tapping the search bar, where you'll see a drop-down list of trends.

Trending works by surfacing topics that are seeing high overall volume of mentions on Facebook and sharp increases in mentions over a short period of time. Trends are personalized for each individual on Facebook based on a number of factors, including: Pages you’ve liked, feedback you've provided on previous trending topics and other factors.

Trending Topics

When you tap on a trending topic, your trending feed may show up to five sections. These sections offer different perspectives about the Trending story, and give you the ability to follow along as it develops. The sections include:

  • In the Story - Posts from people involved or associated with the story.
  • Friends and Groups - Posts from friends and people in your network.
  • Articles - Articles about the story.
  • Near the Scene - Posts from people at the scene where the story is unfolding.
  • Live Feed - A real time stream of reactions and opinions from people on Facebook.
The feed below the new sections displays relevant posts ranked by engagement, timeliness and other factors.
