A note from Pastor Tim asking for all of us to pray...

Tim Keith

I sit here tonight a little stunned and obviously saddened for our friends in Parkland, FL. I wish pastors had all the answers for the hurt, the pain, and the ...evil in this world... but we don't. I don't like tragedy. I sure don't like teenagers losing their lives. It hurts us all. I want it to stop too... just like you do. So, what do we do?

We pray. Prayer matters. A lack of prayer allows evil a temporary victory. Prayer is our weapon against the darkness. Prayer is our response when no response seems adequate. Prayer is our spark of hope when the fire has gone out. We pray.

Yes, we admit to God that we don't understand... that we don't like tragedy... we don't like evil... we don't like death. We admit to God that we need Him... that we are weak... yet He is strong.
And, then we pray. We pray for God's heavenly grace to engulf these families. We pray for God's protection to be upon our own families. We ask God to show us what we need to learn. We ask Him to teach us to pray. We ask Him to burden us to pray.

And, then, we run to His word where we are reminded of life's realities. We see all the way back to the beginning that we live in a broken world. We are a broken people in desperate need of a Savior. Left to ourselves, we hurt each other. But, as we embrace the Christ, our desires change. We desire to help not harm... to love not hate. It's the Savior who changes us.

"Jesus, who had never sinned, became the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:21) Do you know Jesus as your Savior and Heaven as your eternal home? See, we ask Jesus to change us.

And, then, we keep on praying. Prayer is much better than complaining... complaining steals our hope and dulls our mind. Prayer changes things... it changes hearts... it changes lives. Prayer activates heavenly power -- that's God's promise.

Christ followers, will you join me in praying tonight, tomorrow, this week for the people of Parkland, FL? Not in simple word or acclamation, but in on-your-knees prayer?

Prayer matters. We need it so desperately. I don't have God's viewpoint, but I can have His ear. I don't have God's power, but my prayers get His attention. Let's pray together...

I'm going to pray right now... please join me.
