Planning is underway for the July 12 and 13, 2014 sesquicentennial reenactment of the Federal Army's occupation of Roswell, GA and the arrest of 400 mill workers (mostly women and children) for the crime of "treason." The mills were producing a gray woolen cloth for Confederate Uniforms (Roswell Gray) and the mill manager left in charge of the mill during the occupation flew a French flag over the mill in the hope the Federal Army, upon seeing the flag, would think the mill t...o be French owned (the French government remained neutral during the Civil War) and therefore not search it. This did not work.

The reenactment's core feature will be the arrest of the mill workers (in Roswell's town square). The event is sponsored by Barrington Hall and the Roswell Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
The "Reverend Pratt," Roswell's first Presbyterian minister, "Theophile Roche," the French mill worker who tried to thwart the Federal Army and several other of Roswell's original residents will be in attendance at Roswell's Town Square during the arrest.

In addition there will be an encampment of Federal soldiers on the front lawn of Barrington Hall, music be will performed by the 97th Regimental Band of Florida (Saturday and Sunday) and the 8th Regiment Band of Rome, GA (Saturday only).

Phillip and Janine Whiteman, Civil War reenactors and experts, will give several demonstrations and presentations in Barrington Hall's barn meeting space both Saturday and Sunday morning (more details to follow).

The Stately Vintage Dancers of Jonesboro, GA will perform 1860's period dance and give "hands on" instruction on both Saturday and Sunday.

And Smokey Tales of Roswell, GA will again be selling barbecue sandwiches. Hamburgers and hot dogs as well.

Check back frequently for updated information. See you all in July.
