You get poor ratings when you do not follow thru with the orders placed and the money taken. The order says ship 3-5 days well that was 8/5 and no books received as of 8/29.Emailed 3 times and now hav...e called. They answered the phone on Monday 8/28 only to tell be they are busy and the people who ship were not in and to call back. I called back 2 hours later and they still were not in. I called back 2 more hours later and the nice girl said sorry let me take your info and we will contact you, guess what. Yep nothing no email no phone call zip. So today I started calling at 8:30am and a busy signal all day and can not send a request thru their web site. I follow up for my wife as these were books she expected for her classroom and all teachers have zero time during the day to try and run down an order placed in good faith much less time to teach with all the requirements of todays classroom. So now I start the process of contacting the CC company and requesting a stop payment and refund for products not shipped as promised in writing. BUYER BEWARE. Make it right Fifth St books . order # 1925720351 and then we can talk about a 2 star review. See More

I started coming here about two years ago and it was great. A little overwhelming but the books were organized not just by genre but had authors grouped and alphabetized to some degree. It wasn't per...fect, but with so many books I can understand that. But now there's absolutely no organization and on top of it there's no way for the staff to help you. Not that they seem terribly inclined to anyway. Very disappointed. And for all this disorganization you get to pay a dime more? I'll stick with the library. See More

I placed an order on Aug. 3, hoping to have it before school started on the 16th, and still haven't received it. I have called and left 2 messages as well as sent a pm. I am still waiting on my orde...r and a response. I may bump my review to 2 stars depending on if I ever receive my order or a response. See More

This was my second time ordering book bundles, first time was great and quick: would have given full stars after that experience. Decided to order again based upon that level of service. Unfortunately..., they left off important address information causing a shipment that took nearly three weeks, to be returned to sender. Sent an email requesting refund: no response yet. Called to inquire about said email: no apology, just a statement that someone "should" return my email. Wow!
Thanks for the help. If I am unable to get the product I ordered, I would like my $44.25 back. At this point, I would not recommend.

i went there recently to get a certain type of book and when i got there it was completely different. the people who work there had changed how the books were on the shelf they put books of the same s...ize together. I asked where books pertaining to history of places i was told she didnt know and to go and look. the person didnt even bother to help me find the stuff I was looking for. I would have bought more if i could find anything. See More

I would not recommend ordering online. The selection of books I received is not good quality (most were from kids meals) and after several weeks and emails sent, I'm still waiting on the rest of my or...der. As a teacher, I was hoping for some books to be able to use in the classroom, for $14.75, I should have bought new. See More

I ordered online and received many "character" books like Barbie and Sesame Street and I ordered the box of books for third graders. I did not receive one chapter book which I was really hoping to get... ordering for the grade level I did. I will not recommend them or order again. See More

I have 4 kids, I'm a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom, and I used to go buy school books from them. It was hard enough to search through the stacks looking for school books with 4 kids in tow when they... were organized by genre. I went back a month ago looking for books for this year... I spent 3 HOURS looking through everything, and couldn't find what I needed! I'm not planning on going back, unless they reorganize the shelves. Major disappointment. It was my favorite bookstore. As a teacher, we are always looking for "cheap books". I discovered Fifth Street many moons ago and have been a loyal customer ever since. It saddens me to see the negative reviews of a business tha...t offers so much of itself for little to nothing in return. The owner, his family, and staff are some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet.
They have always had a soft spot for educators and they try diligently to help as much as possible. The new "book boxes" they offer for teachers consumes the man power to organize the store. With that being said, for those that are disgruntled, think about all of the other places you go for used books. Can you pay only 35-59 cents for them? If so, I'm sure you would still dig through shelves looking for the titles. Please try to appreciate what they do for educators and let the little stuff slide. When you walk into the building, you can look all around and read posters from children and schools thanking them for the FREE BOOKS. Share with us another bookstore that gives so much of themselves and stock! If you have a difficult time looking through shelves, dealing with the heat or cold, or just grumpy in general.....stay home. These folks don't deserve your complaints. They are true angels for the schools in their community and surrounding areas.
I have always driven over an hour to visit them, and it's worth it every single time!
Thank you again friends at Fifth Street for another amazing visit.....even in the monsoon rainstorm! You folks are amazing! - Kerri in Clayton, NC

A great place to dog around for book gems. Children's book galore! You can't really count on it having a specific adult book you may want, but you're bound to find something interesting and it will be... affordable. See More

I always enjoy going to the warehouse. There's something about the smell of books and enjoying the hunt for the next best read.

If you're looking for children's books... this is the place to go! However, if you're looking for anything else... well, I wish I could give it five stars but since they've done away with shelving th...e books by genre, it's impossible to shop. Ok, maybe not impossible... but extremely difficult. It had been a few months since I'd been here due to a crazy work schedule, so I was really looking forward to stopping yesterday afternoon. Imagine my shock to read the sign at the end of the aisles that books are now shelved according to size. What?! Yup... everything is mixed in together... diet, self help, computers, sports, decorating, history, etc. In the past, I could spend hours in there... now, it was a struggle to find 3 books that I wanted... and even then, the headache of trying to have my mind jump back and forth from one subject to the next and the next and the next was already starting in full force. Hopefully soon they'll get back to some type of organization because this... "situation" they have now isn't working.. at least for me. See More

I ordered some books for my classroom in mid-July. They arrived today and I am very happy with the selection I got. Cannot wait to order again. My students will really enjoy the books you chose.

I just received my first order via mail. My purchase was made on 12/21/16 and the package arrived today, 12/31/16. Being that I'm in Greensboro and the warehouse is in Mebane, I thought the books woul...d have arrived sooner but I'm not complaining!

Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase! The books are used as we all know but they are in excellent condition. Some had writing in them because they were gifts for the previous owner but that didn't bother me. Also, there was a bonus pack of 5 books. I'm not sure if that is for first time buyers, the holidays or a normal thing but I appreciated it!! I will definitely recommend this company and will be purchasing again!!

By the way, I purchased the 25 PreK books for $14.75 which is unbeatable especially with the bonus pack that was included!!

There's very little organization. Good if you have hours on hand to sift through books. Not worth it if you're looking for something specific.

Even though the books aren't shelved by genre or author anymore, I still LOVE coming in and browsing for that 1 book that will complete a series! It's like a treasure hunt!

Wonderful place and excellent staff! As a teacher, it was much easier to buy the box of 100 scholastic books for $25 a box than to pick through the warehouse and look for quality educational books for... my classroom. I bought 2 boxes and feel very happy with the variety of picture, chapter and non fiction books that were included-all a variety of levels. I will definitely be back! Thank you for such a great experience! See More

I had gone to this store before and had a wonderful experience. I went again today, having read on their website that teachers and homeschoolers pay $.25 a book for children's books. I spent several h...ours sorting through and picking out the books I wanted. When I went to pay, they told me that the prices had changed to $.59 for hardbacks and $.35 for soft backs. While they had these prices posted, their signs did not state that these prices also applied to teachers. The man did give me some of the books for free to make up for my trouble. Still, a store should honor the price they advertise. Anything else is dishonest and a form of fraud. See More
