Part of the heritage of Finger Lakes Wine Country is the growth of Fulkerson Winery. Their story is filled with farming hardships and victories – all molding the winery into what it is today.
By 1815, much of the original 550 acres of the 1805 farmstead (which included all of the land between Big Stream and North Glenora Rd in Eddytown NY (now Lakemo...nt), was parceled out to become a small hamlet and milling community known as Glenora. On the nearly 120 acres that was retained, Caleb Fulkerson and his children operated a public house, church, and inn out of his home, and farmed the land working largely on a bartering system. Much of the original farmstead has been re-purchased since, and now approximately 250 acres of the original parcel is operated by the family.
Glenora, a largely successful community, contained a grist mill, manufacturing plant (producing household items, cattle stations and the like), a general store, post office and a large steamboat landing. The town was bustling through the 1880’s when the railroad was expanded up the west side of Seneca Lake, offering a less expensive alternative to canal travel. The hamlet's commercial enterprises remained in operation until the early 1900’s, but struggled to be profitable after the steamboats ceased operation. Glenora transitioned largely to a residential summer retreat by the 1910’s and continues to be a peaceful hamlet today.
One pairing that's a perfectly delicious duo is the mouthwatering combination of cheese and wine.

"These dry Rieslings from the [Finger Lakes] region are crisp and vivacious, sometimes tangy, sometimes offering riper, rounder, less-puckery fruit. If you have ever been turned off by a Riesling for being too sweet, you don’t have to worry about that here." - Michael Austin, Chicago Tribune
