The most gorgeous wine country around! My husband and I stumbled upon the lakes by accident and it has been the best memory every made. Every visit brings a new adventure and a new taste. We were in...spired by so many wineries and the friendliest of owners that their inspiration gave us the boost we needed to open our own winery in Indiana ~ TJ Haase Winery! We constantly bring out the Finger Lakes map and share this gem of a spot with our customers and entice them to take a vacation they will long to go back for! Thank You NY ~ Finger Lakes for your fine wine and hospitality! See More

Amazing wines without the pretension. This place has it all. Breath taking wineries, amazing people, A gorgeous glass museum, wine that can go up against the best in the country in my eyes. My hope is... that they never allow this piece of heaven to become commercialized! See More

It is beautiful throughout the area, especially Seneca Lake. We tasted the best Rieslings ever!

Help a traveler out! If you were planning the perfect marriage proposal in the Finger Lakes, where and how would you pop the big question?

The incredibly deep, ever-circulating waters of Seneca Lake give it little chance to freeze over in the winter. Thought to be a once-a-century occurrence, the last reported freeze was in 1912.

Napa is still a must see, but not the only domestic destination to get your vino on.

Part of the heritage of Finger Lakes Wine Country is the growth of Fulkerson Winery. Their story is filled with farming hardships and victories – all molding the winery into what it is today.

Fulkerson Winery added 8 new photos.

By 1815, much of the original 550 acres of the 1805 farmstead (which included all of the land between Big Stream and North Glenora Rd in Eddytown NY (now Lakemo...nt), was parceled out to become a small hamlet and milling community known as Glenora. On the nearly 120 acres that was retained, Caleb Fulkerson and his children operated a public house, church, and inn out of his home, and farmed the land working largely on a bartering system. Much of the original farmstead has been re-purchased since, and now approximately 250 acres of the original parcel is operated by the family.
Glenora, a largely successful community, contained a grist mill, manufacturing plant (producing household items, cattle stations and the like), a general store, post office and a large steamboat landing. The town was bustling through the 1880’s when the railroad was expanded up the west side of Seneca Lake, offering a less expensive alternative to canal travel. The hamlet's commercial enterprises remained in operation until the early 1900’s, but struggled to be profitable after the steamboats ceased operation. Glenora transitioned largely to a residential summer retreat by the 1910’s and continues to be a peaceful hamlet today.

"These dry Rieslings from the [Finger Lakes] region are crisp and vivacious, sometimes tangy, sometimes offering riper, rounder, less-puckery fruit. If you have ever been turned off by a Riesling for being too sweet, you don’t have to worry about that here." - Michael Austin, Chicago Tribune

Known for its cool climate, perfect for delicate grapes like riesling, the Finger Lakes region in New York is one to watch.

Cheers to Wine Wednesday! What's in your glass?
