Just quietly - forgot to add that yesterday I completed my spin accreditation. Have I mentioned how good spin is for you?

Fitness Heaven was celebrating the Summer Solstice.

You know those little white tickets everyone hates? According to the stats (and they're part of the stat keeping) 780 people did Deep Water Running classes in December. That more than a 100 up from the previous month in a month interrupted by Christmas and closure. Incredible! Great work people. No wonder the Council bought you all new belts and dumbells. See you next week. Remember Monday night at 6:00 starting Jan 8th.

I must admit I am in a constant struggle with yoga. On the one hand I believe in it and my philosophical leanings towards the yogic way of life go way back to when I was young - on the other hand I think yoga has sold out or rather been swamped by a Dharma hugging Instagram obsessed culture which to my mind contradicts what yoga is all about. This puts me off yoga. So I live in a constant state of contradiction about whether I want to continue with my Level 1 teaching cours...e (given my range of motion issues and the fact that I am not a good candidate for Warrior 1 on the beach) or whether I want to jack the whole thing in the bin as another example something that has been taken over and exploited by the vanity driven, profit focussed Western culture. And then along comes someone who inspires me and reminds me, just as long distance running taught me, that yoga is a mind set and a way of life that is driven from within, not without. The true principles of yoga are unadorned. Two of the people who have inspired me the most this year have both been over 70. The one, a runner, inspires me every week when I watch her at the gym and is a shining example of just getting on with it without the glitzy hoo ha that surrounds the fitness industry. The other is 98, take a look.

The latest breed of star to come out of social media is the so-called “yogalebrity” - they’re young, lithe, lycra-clad and all over Instagram in bendy positions. But there’s one who is very much the exception to the rule: 98-year-old Täo Porchon-Lynch from Hartsdale, New York. And unlike th...

Thank you to the five soldiers who turned up on this dodgy night to support the new Monday night deep water class. It's going to be the best of 3 people. Your efforts are much appreciated.
