I volunteer here almost every week, and the staff, in both the Kitchen and the Warehouse, are amazing. They do such a good job of making your time spent there is impactful as possible and make you fee...l appreciated and welcome.

This is a well run charity that is truly making a difference in our area of the world!

I volunteer twice a week for FoodGatherers (at the Warehouse) and I think it's an incredible organization . . . a clear mission, run by a great staff, with devoted volunteers and many regular food don...ors (e.g., grocery stores, farms, restaurants, etc.). I also have the pleasure of interacting with some of the representatives of FG's "partners," who actually distribute the food "saved" by FG. If anyone's looking for a really, really worthwhile place to put some extra dollars, this is where it should go. See More

A terrific idea--in fact, that of Zingerman's delicatessen founder Paul Saginaw. I have volunteered at a June "Grillin'" in Ann Arbor...and even been on the receiving end of Food Gatherers' generosity.... MUCH appreciated! See More

Excellent and well organized! They welcomed us as volunteers with open arms and let us know the numerous ways we could help. We loved working at the warehouse and shelter and plan on doing so more... often. Kudos!! See More

Today is the 5th annual Michigan Apple Crunch Day! Food Gatherers donated fresh produce to Erickson Elementary School in Ypsilanti to help students celebrate. The school's food service staff created a special farmer's market in the lunch room and gave students "money" to shop at the market. Staff from growing hope helped students "buy" fruits and vegetables to take home. #miapplecrunch
When Food Gatherers began operations in 1988, it was the first Food Rescue Program in Michigan and one of the first six in the nation. Today we connect more than 300 food donors to 170 partner agencies that distribute delicious, healthy food to people struggling with food insecurity in Washtenaw County. Last year, we received a total of 2,821,996 pounds of food from our network of food rescue partners. That's 43.4% of all the food we distributed. Let's give our food rescue partners a round of applause for their dedication to alleviating hunger where we live!! See all our food rescue partners here: #fighthunger #foodrescue #endfoodwaste

Food Gatherers honored four special groups of people last night at its annual Spring Gathering, an awards ceremony that acknowledges and celebrates special contributions to advancing the organization's mission.

This year's Gathering Awards went to:
- Farmer Bill Schmid and the Mindful Eating Team of the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor for their dedication to growing and supplying fresh, local produce to distribute to our partner agencies.
- Lindsay and... Frank Bateman for exemplary volunteer service at Food Gatherers Community Kitchen.
- Domino's for its generous financial support over the years and help building awareness about hunger and how Food Gatherers strives to alleviate it.
- Washtenaw County Health Department for its financial support and collaborative work over many years to improve access to healthy foods.

#HappyVolunteerAppreciationMonth! Thousands of volunteers work at Food Gatherers Community Kitchen 364 days per year. They come in early to prepare food and stay late to serve guests at the Kitchen seven days a week. Last year, volunteers prepared and served no less than 74,613 plates of food.

Jane Levy is a regular long time volunteer at the Community Kitchen. She's been there for 11-12 years! Read Jane's and other volunteers' stories on our special Volunteer Appreciation web page:
