As part of the ICANN Middle East Strategy devised by the Middle East Strategy Working Group (MESWG), ICANN aims to develop and sponsor outreach programs and initiatives in partnership with national and regional stakeholders in order to stimulate the regional Internet community and ensure effective participation in regional and global Internet Governance fora.

To that end, ICANN through MESWG’s Task Force on Capacity Building and Awareness (TF-CBA) is organizing the Middle East and Adjoining Countries School on Internet Governance (MEAC-SIG) 2014. This annual five-day event will be comprised of focused sessions tailored to fit the region's needs. These sessions will be covering a broad range of issues from technical to policy aspects of Internet Governance.

Deliver Linux and Open Source Software Training Missions

The ITU Academy Internet Training Centre (ITC) initiative started in 2001 and is now a global network of approximately 80 institutions supported through partnerships with Cisco Systems, Microsoft Corporation and the European Commission.

The introduction of Linux courses and the widely recognized industry certification will greatly enhance the training offerings of the ITC and the services they can offer the Member countries. This collaboration and support of open source software, in keeping with the WSIS outcomes as well as the WTDC resolutions (Res 17 Annex 3), enhances the employability of the graduates thus helping promote one of the objectives of the ITC Initiative – that of technological empowerment as a path to economic and social development.
