Joe saint George with you from the campus of a metro state were writing uh front of a large dock or rally that has commenced here in downtown Denver you can see obviously a couple of thousand people mostly students who have walked out of I walked out of school today mostly high school students some College students from all corners of the metro Denver area coming here for a rally a result of President donald trump's decision earlier today to begin the process to end dhaka were to provide some live pictures here on facebook there's a lot of chatter a lot of Talking commenting we're here with we are have a we're live here this is Speaker Chris and ran of the Democratic party here in Colorado you came out here today obviously some reaction to the big news that President trump has decided to end the dreamers program dot com I think when our community is under attack we are resilient and we are very strong and you see students here from ross estate who are out today who are saying we need to make sure that we protect the dreamers and that Congress acts immediately what can the state do what can Colorado do or is this such a federal decision that really is good to be up to the senator Michael bennett's Senator cory gardner's uh of the world to change but anything you can do as Speaker of the House in Colorado I think we need to do everything we possibly can to protect the dreamers you know there are kids have been in this country and the time that they were very very young they love America they will be able to get a good education and be able to work here and pay taxes and we should do everything we can to protect them is it pretty overwhelming to see all these young people here walking out of school participating in the Democratic process now we are seeing rallies and marches happening across this country we've seen it when it comes to women's issues um to protecting the environment and now we're here on behalf of dreamers um what is happening And Washington dc and the White House is not representative of Colorado values when you stop playing politics and put people first and actually come together to make sure that our state and country is going in the right direction now we're live here on facebook on Fox 31 and channel two and some people are saying you know the President good for him a lot of these people they call them quote illegals what would you say to those people who say that people need to come to this country legally I say we are a country of compassion and when you have toddlers who come to this country and I've been here went to Colorado School's been part of American society we need to figure out a pathway for them to continue to be here but we also have to look at the economics of this and the reality is is there's a lot of economic activity that immigrants contribute in in Colorado and across the country um and we have to figure out how do we make sure that we have comprehensive immigration reform that is humane but also recognize the benefits that immigrants provide um and the taxes that they do pay um we have An incredible opportunity in front of us right now to bring people together to be able to accomplish that and that doesn't mean that in the process of advocating for comprehensive immigration reform that we don't focus on working people we need to do more to make sure that we build our Middle class and the people work hard and they have the opportunity to be able to get a good paying job and be able to provide for themselves and for those of their families those two goals are people coming out as in response to President donald trump's decision earlier today we're just gonna kinda walk through the crowd talk to some people so you get a sense of sense of who exactly uh is out here a lot of elected officials but as we head towards the main stage you won't see any elected officials speaking that's because the organizers have said we're gonna keep this two young people were to keep this just to to dhaka recipients um people who are impacted by the president's The president's decision uh today and you get a sense of just how crowded it is a lot of these people are looking forward to talking eager to talk perhaps exactly about how this will impact them I sir how are you can I ask you a quick question with Fox 31 channel to what brought you out here today um supporting my daughter and she's uh she's from that path because she is and what your daughter's first name and will miss customer than the laughing okay and we're Are you from I'm from Mexico city we come here sayings 20 years ago my daughter is here from saying she has uh one year and uh we can here to find the best life but don't sell jobs try to be better um alive and find the rights think for this beautiful Plays this beautiful how country how old is your daughter uh 20 20 so she in College right now is she working she's in College and she has a part time and she has the benefit of that kind because she can uh stay in the College and then third year today uh in she is working on a University of Colorado so in terms of and again we welcome our viewers listening to us here on facebook on Fox 31 and channel to um In terms of impacts of this if it docket goes away and six months is it seems to if Congress doesn't act well your daughter be unable to work legally in the us yes yes they probably so in the Congress along uh great something so all these kids uh definitely my daughter can work maybe can come into this cold too and she only needed like uh two more years To finance it there caller now are you undocumented yes are you at all worried that the government the federal government has a lot of your daughter's information and that if they perhaps wanted to come to your House and scare me that we're here we're working all the time we pay taxes this is this is a huge controversy okay everybody paying taxes I pay taxes from St 19 98 and we don't receive nothing miss and it's not right this is something like I can't go any place they can go outside I'm stay just here and it's tired I know now there are some people and they might be responding to our comments uh below here on facebook who are saying he didn't come here the right way and then maybe you should file the paperwork to be a us citizen but what would you say to those who are listening to us here on facebook live uh I cross the border with the beside uh Just stay here with my business expires on my time with and because I'm I'm looking for a very good place to to live to create a new life because for all people who think maybe I'm coming here on I'm I'm right now L ago I wanna tell them and give you an apologize because I'm not coming here to stall some I'm a very good worker I can talk to me and many people and very good worker I payment access I never turned my name my name is isaac could you go back to your country will be very difficult it will be very difficult because 20 years ago uh it's a long time this is a long time and I'm okay if the people understand and they can give in Guys to stay here when my business expire so ok I can go back but out my daughter if she don't know isn't a spokesperson this isn't a lawyer uh this is isaac Wright former isis example of someone directly impacted by this he is undocumented his daughter has dhaka your daughter allowed to work legally allowed to have a driver's In Colorado all of that of course an influx has a King coming at the College um as a driver license she don't we don't have benefits from from the birth diversification of the uh Many things like that people think they grabbed the money from here for her no we sometimes collect money and pay cash to polish thank you sir for the opportunity want to take our folks out here on facebook again if you're just joining us you're looking at a live shot of metro state University this is the uh hello how are you yeah give me one second um we're uh live here at the metro state University campus where you can see well over a thousand young people mostly walking out of Denver schools today many cases with their principles their teachers escorting them here some of March several several miles uh from very North high school East high school we caught up with some young people from buyers high school marching down speer boulevard to get here this all our commence right after attorney general Jeff sessions made that announcement in Washington about 11 AM eastern time 9 AM 9 AM mountain time um as we continue to pan the crowd of young people this is the the far end of the crowd but you can see some people talking with their friends some people engaging the stage a little bit closer let's go see if we could talk to this young lady she's on that one of these one of these signs here excuse me hi how are you I'm with Fox 31 in channel two it looks like hopefully you're you're doing alright up there oh looks like we have a a little table that that collapse everyone's gonna be okay but that's what happens when large people get together what's your name anna anna what you come here today to support our community are you a doctor recipient or you know people who have um I know people who are what high school you are from the St College real how did you guys decide to come out today uh my school got together and we decided it was to support our community and everyone around us how far was the walk um I came with my dad three hours three hours while you walk three hours what's your name Christian I Christian I'm Joe with Fox 31 and my friends are on um with no papers and undocumented and I have friends are actually scared to see what's gonna happen cuz I know some of my colleagues and I wanna help be here and support them what's what's one of what are your friends saying are they worried that they might not Lose their College loser education like they don't know what they're gonna do after if the doctor is actually lost anything so that's what I'm more worried about what they don't know what you're gonna do here is something that maybe some people on facebook might be wondering and and one question is how is this impacting anything academics I mean you guys are supposed to be in you might be happier out of math class or science class but do you think the threat of deportation is impacting some of your friends' ability to to learn probably just the way things are going right now is probably event I can no more what about teachers and Teachers in your school if you heard about any worries that dot Co teachers maybe they're just we have a teacher from College with a musical apology he's he was speaking earlier he said he was on the document under fair unafraid and well everything I like he thought about it it's like not to be afraid and that we can make it in this world no matter what was given to us it was coming towards it as long as we keep pushing forward that's great thanks for talking with us as brought their posters here um to Commemorate this day and really begin what's next for the stock of movement again doc is not going away right away um but unless Congress acts in the next six months or so uh it will consequences here in Colorado well uh you can drive in Colorado have a driver's license because if you're a doctor recipient that they will not be able to renew their renew their driver's license if that's the case it's unclear but it it seems as though impact on education in terms of financial aid College tuition admissions of that will be perhaps Because even some major universities you see Colorado come out saying they will not impact they will not impact their uh admissions process are tuition process based on immigration how are you doing sir you doing okay can I talk with you real quickly okay you're with Fox 31 channel to this is my camera man Sean toll he's braving the crowd here as we're live on what brought you out here today um I'm a student on campus and I am taking the class um race and Gender and society and we were let out to uh use this as one of our assignments what what is what is struck you what is struck me is um what is struck me is that the uh things that were studying in the classroom are being lived out here uh live on campus and it's kind of exciting to be able to see history in the making and be a part of it do you know any doctor recipients or anyone in Texas uh I do I go to students with uh I have uh classes with some of the other students and um I support them Again doctor such a young person's issue because in two thousand and 12 or so when President Obama really began implementing this and did this impacted dhaka literally means deferred action for childhood arrivals so for people who came to the us as children illegally cross the border illegally they are the ones that were impacted by President obama's decision there are certainly the ones impacted by President donald trump's decision today thanks for chatting with us and giving us a sense as to some of the people here will Mark a little closer to the stage Sean if we can I know it's gonna be rough through the crowd but um as you can This is uh this is quite the quite the group there are some folks in White here that's the color that uh the people are wearing um to show solidarity I folks how are you I'm with Fox 31 in channel two and we're talking to people live here on facebook who come out here I noticed you're White is that the color of the day or that's what we were told yeah very facebook what brought you out here we want to stand in solidarity with those of our colleagues our friends our fellow students who are um documented Yeah we were both working education record nonprofit that serves uh high achieving low income high school students called minds matter and we want to serve uh the students the student to deserve every chance to be here and every chance to the American Dream that the rest of us have any concern with the teachers being impacted for sure you might think that would really actually I'd like to direct you to pay me and he's the executive director of the Union I damian I'm with the Fox 31 a channel to talk a little bit about da Co impact whoa how is this impacting the Which you say and metro dinner I think I have an incredible effects a lot of our teachers as we heard are dealing with students who are coming to them now and saying I don't have much hope for the future and so I think what our charge is educators is to instill that hope um how many students do you think would be perhaps a matter of there's any numbers or statistics I know it's about 17000 colorado's until her I think it's hard to say and as you might imagine a lot of students who are kinda sensitive right now about exposing themselves and whether they're undocumented right now what strikes Today's uh event I think was striking actually is just the diversity of faces that you see around here um this is actually a pretty good representation of Denver in Colorado um every person from every walk of life is here to show support interesting day thank you so much for chatting with us here on Fox 31 in channel two will just
