I used to come to Barons games here all the time as a child. It's the oldest in the country, so it's a must for any baseball fan. We are lucky to have it here.

Rickwood Fans -- We are pleased to announce that this year's special guest for the Rickwood Classic is Bucky Dent. Dent played 12 big league seasons for the White Sox, Yankees, Rangers and Royals. He is best remembered for hitting a 3-run home run for the Yankees off Boston's Mike Torrez in a 1-game playoff that capped the Yankees dramatic comeback season (the Yanks trailed the Sox by 14 games on July 19). A three-time all-star, Dent also won the MVP in the 1978 World Series posting a gaudy .417 batting average with 10 hits and 7 RBI's. In addition, Dent has a Rickwood Field connection, as he played for the AA Knoxville Sox in the Southern League for the entire 1972 season.

The Rickwood Classic is set for Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 12:30 p.m.

In the early days of Birmingham's steel industry, industrial titan Rick Woodward built a state of the art ballpark in the shadows of the Birmingham steel mills.

Concrete pouring at Rickwood Field began this week. The curing process will take 28 days as America's Oldest Ballpark's rehab continues. Construction is right on track! Reminder -- the Rickwood Classic is scheduled Wednesday, May 30‎, 2018 at 12:30pm. Stay tuned for our update on the special guest.

We are seeing progress in the repairs at Rickwood. A large load of lumber was brought in. The holes drilled in the first base walk ways have been covered. The lumber is being used to construct forms to cover up the opening below the stands. (See attached photos). Pouring concrete can't be far away. Rickwood comes off the DL soon. On February 1, 2018 Miles College will play a home game; local high schools will also be using the ballpark. And, on May 30, 2018, the Rickwood Classic Returns to America's Oldest Ballpark. Stay tuned for details regarding the special guest.
