Nourish Your Heart and Brain with this Delicious Dragon Fruit Coconut Smoothie
Dragon fruit is one of my all-time favourite fruits. It has a host of delicious health benefits, with my favourite being cardiovascular and brain health. All those tiny black seeds found in dragon fruit are high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids). These healthy fats reduce triglycerides and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Vitamin B3 present in dragon fruit a...lso helps lower bad (LDL) cholesterol levels, while raising good (HDL) cholesterol levels. Vitamin B3, along with B1 and B2 (also present in the fruit) help support the formation and maintenance of basic nerve cell structures, which allows us to be more alert, and experience higher levels of mental clarity.
Dragon fruit is also high in minerals like calcium and phosphorous, two compounds essential in strengthening your bones and teeth and helping tissue formation and repair. That makes this dragon fruit coconut smoothie great for helping prevent brittle bones and osteoporosis!
Health Benefits of Fruits
“Many of us have made fruits an integral part of our diet plan.” said Julia Garte of Organic Fruit Baskets of NY. “We’ve been eating fruits to supplement our body with nutrients and minerals.” A fruit is best consumed fresh. Before they are processed, which causes them lose quite a few vital minerals. Fruits are rich in vitamins and other anti-oxidants.
Potted plants vs. chemicals
It’s well known that plants are necessary for clean air, but we bet you didn’t know NASA has done experiments using houseplants to improve air quality in future space stations.
They found houseplants eliminate dangerous chemicals from the environment. Benzene (used in detergents, gasoline and paints), Trichloroethylene (in adhesives and paints), formaldehyde (wall paneling and kitchen cabinets) all reduced, some by 50%-80% and that was within 24 hours! In fact, the plants even adapted to specific toxins they found in the air, so the longer you have them the more effective they are in purifying your home environment.
