THE FISHERMAN'S WIFE. Sustainable Recipes (and salty stories)
...a story of a fishing family and what they do, how they do it.
A hard-working husband and wife team selling fresh fish local Long Island catch. Selling fish in the New York Green markets since 1990.
Blue Moon, that's the name of the
⛵.
Blue Moon through the years have hired artists, activists, scientists and psychiatrists, poets, jazz and rock musicians and corporate refugees, straight, gay and transgenders folk...s, without discrimination of color or race. I was one of them and I will never forget that time. Recipes from blackfish to fish cakes, flounder, mackerel, clams, squid, cod, porgies, mussels... ... And an entire chapter of "HOW TO
..."
And then a few very unique and honest salty stories of the fishing life.
The wife is an amazing woman, Stephanie Villani!
The husband I'd somebody who I do admire, Alex Villani.

I'm obsessed with this place. The owner is a sweetheart- I ended up buying a little notebook and he wrapped it up beautifully and even attached a little flower to the tissue paper. So much love put into every single detail of this store.

¨New York Times.....Fuego 718 in Williamsburg, a Shop Where Every Day Is the Day of the Dead
Alex Aldama opened Fuego 718 in 2004, stocking it exclusively with items imported from Mexico. He has since relaxed that criterion to include ephemera from Peru, Haiti, Vietnam and India, as well... as crafts by local artists. Aside from the fact that everything is handmade, the common thread seems to be a chaotic, cartoony vividness.
Fuego has become known for its window displays, which Mr. Aldama started to focus on a few years ago, building elaborate scenes with mannequins and plastic plants, and sometimes failing to include anything for sale in the store. It was a necessary innovation in an increasingly busy neighborhood, but the work seems to have paid off.
“Kids were stopping and going ‘Aah! Mommy look!’ ” Mr. Aldama said.
