Unfortunately the standards of Galle Face Hotel have gone down.
1. Upon arrival at the entrance there's no competent person to coordinate the valet parking (please take a look at how beautifully it is... managed by the Cinnamon Grand Hotel & Kingsbury Hotel)
2. The Sunday lunch buffet (or brunch buffet as they told) was very poor value for money. It had way less variety of food compared to the other hotels that charge a similar rate.
3. The waiters haven't been properly groomed to match the brand of the hotel. (No blame on those poor boys. It's the management who should work on brushing them up).

I sincerely hope these things will be fixed because few years ago the Galle Face Hotel had real good service levels and some of the richest buffets.

Anyone planning to go there for a lunch or dinner buffet I recommend to take a look at the spread and then decide whether to take it or not.

It is only about money when it comes to Galle face hotel

The hotel is so inconsiderate towards customer emotions that even in the face of a medical emergency, they will paste their stupid policies in... your face to ensure they dont lose out on a penny

We booked this hotel and had to cancel the last minute as we had to go back to our country because of some medical emergency

We asked the hotel to kindly consider waiving off some part of our booking charges which were $840 (not a small amount) as we weren't going to stay at all now

The amazing experience followed next where the hotel showed us their cancellation policy of zero refund

I am amazed to see how a renowned hotel like theirs can turn such blind eye towards people's emotions and their hard earned money

Where hotel industry is known across the world for their out of the way adjustments fir customers, galle face hotel stands at the other end waiting to suck the money from the customers

I would suggest people to be extremely cautious when booking this hotel as one might have to face a situation where they will shove one of their non customer only profit friendly policy in your face incase u r looking for some adjustments

The hotel it self is quite beautiful and the historic aspect is top notch. But we definitely had some issues. We arranged car service to the airport and the driver had to take nearly a 30 minute detou...r to stop for gas which you don’t expect ever let alone at a so called 5 star hotel. We bought drinks at the pool bar and they said they’d deliver them to our seats. After waiting around 20 minutes my husband went back to the bar to ask where they were and they had forgotten to make them. Mind you that there were less than 25 people at the pool/pool bar. Also per their website our room included access to the long room, and when we went to enjoy a cocktail they said it wasn’t. After having to go back to the front desk show them their website they then “allowed” us to have access. Overall glad we had the chance to stay at such a beautiful and iconic hotel, but would never stay there again. See More

I’ve wanted to come to this hotel for ages and I wasn’t disappointed in face it has exceeded my expectations.
It is a beautiful colonial hotel with very pleasant helpful staff and lovely surroundings.... The location is perfect and I have had a lovely 3 days here being so well looked after by the helpful smiling staff. I enjoyed a massage in the spa which was amazing. The pool is very nice and relaxing and the sea water is so nice to swim in. I’ll be back Galle Face Hotel See More

I was attending an evening wedding. Food and service was good but I didn't like the setting of the two reception halls. I was invited to the wedding at the grand ballroom and there was a wedding going... on at the jubilee ball room too. The poruwa ceremony of Jubilee ballroom wedding was arrange in the arena which was the only entrance to both halls and it was very very disturbing to the function in the grand ballroom. Also the poruwa ceremony of grand ballroom was arranged at a sea side corridor upstairs which was not adequate in space at all! And I am pretty sure the photographers and the Kandian dancers had a very hard time in managing the lighting conditions and space. You should have guided and helped the couple to have a better place because, you have enough experience and they deserve a much better poruwa ceremony. The couple was perfect and their wedding is the most important moment of them! See More

A few checking in hiccups but resolved with apologies and upgrade. Booked to stay 2 nights but ended up staying 9 as had access to private service in Long Room though I must say, service was excellent... throughout this iconic srilankan colonial hotel, with smiling, courteous, professional, friendly helpful staff throughout. Excellent buffet spread with tantalising choice of local breakfast and daily cuisine. My junior suite had a private staircase and had magnifucent views of the Indian Ocean whose lively waves sang me a soothing lullaby or awoke me with a spring in my step every morning. I also had a magnificent view of Galle Face Green, where tourists, and locals exercise daily, work, rest and play. I was treated like a princess and very well looked after. Thank you. See More

It was a lovely hotel. Spacious rooms and very comfortable. They were very accommodating when we needed late check out. English afternoon tea was delicious, though it took a long time for the tea to a...rrive and they proceeded to pour the tea and milk. They did not continue to do this though and after a while left the pots on the table. The pool bar attendents did not do a good job of keeping an eye out for service on the loungers. We often wanted drinks but could not get anyone attention. The hotel was helpful when checking in and departing and the on the whole it eas a wonderful stay. See More

I'm a budget traveller. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to check out the place by having a drink at Travellers Bar, and watch the sunset into the sea.
Very nice, great service, in some ways a tim...e warp - especially the flag lowering ceremony (won't give more info).
To see the haves, and be mindful of those outside on Galle Face Green (which only has a fairly weak section of green).

One of the worst hotels to coordinate an event. From the banquet sales staff to the operations to the F&B staff, they are all puppets & not bothered to do their jobs which they are paid for! Service i...n NIL!
I'm not sure how hosts have events here without event coordinators because the hotel will not know how to handle it. So get your moneys worth & go elsewhere!

Unmatched heritage. I have stopped caring for exemplary service or cuisine when I stay in heritage properties like this so I didn't bother looking at them with a luxury lens.
But it has the makings to... be a 'Grande Dame' of Asia. (Sure can do with improvement in service quality.)
But when you stay here, it's more about connecting with the history that this place has been through.

We had our first family wedding at this place. The wedding hall was so good, it created the mood we wanted for the event. The hotel had proper locations for the photographs (just that some locations w...ere not allowed to use) and the staff was supportive. I think this hotel offered the best when it comes to food, loved every single bit of it. See More

What a beautiful & historical Hotel!
I went with my Fiancee, to so many places (in Colombo & Kalutara areas) to choose the Hotel for our Wedding. We were positive with a few options, when we accidenta...lly met Mr.Mubarak from GFH. What an amazing person he is... He totally changed our initial plans. He is a person with plenty of marketing tricks upon his sleeve. GFH is very lucky to have him onboard. So finally we decided to have our dream Wedding at GFH with the beautiful colonial landscape & good food.

Throughout our wedding planning process Mr.Mubarak helped us in various ways. A big thankyou goes out to Athila too, who helped us choose the menu. And another name to be mentioned is Nimanthi from Banquet Sales. Thankyou for all your support & kindness.

About the Hotel & Jubilee Hall:
Hotel has a few restrictions when it comes to photo locations, but trust me even with the restrictions around, it will still give you breathtaking photos, specially in the lawn area. I would highly recommend this place to have your wedding, preferably in the evening.

Rooms for the wedding:
A Bridal suite with a Jacuzzi is provided for the couple on HB basis. Extra changing room which has a large mirror, and another mirror with adjustable lighting is also provided.

The Hotel offers you a Mercedes E200 for the couple's going away purpose. Ashtaka, Drummers, Dancers with Jaya mangala gatha girls & Bagpipers are also provided complementary by the Hotel.
Complementaries included a champagne & Wine bottle for the couple as well.
Staff provided the best of service and were very helpful & professional.

It really made our big day beautiful & memorable. Thank you so much GFH & the Team!!

I live in Sri Lanka and went with 2 friends from the UK to the Galle Face for High tea. It used amazing but now is very limited and disappointing. Certainly.not the superb spread they used to before the renovation.
There is so much competition in Colombo now that i think the Galle Face offers very little to its guests because it knows its history and ambiance is unrivalled.

I gave a star for the architecture...other wise,.... literary pigs working in the hotel except one dark skinned lady at the reception. They do not know how to talk to customers & they have no understa...nding of their policy on pictures inside the hotel: now we all know, they don't allow picture taking with regular cameras inside the hotel regardless of your expertise with the camera. I got it, the front desk lady explained it to us. It's a fucked up arrogant policy... I don't care, we ain't coming here again.
Another thing is,... they have a policy that 1st world even doesn't have. 1- They forgot Sri Lanka is still a 3rd world country. 2- TUK TUK or Three wheelers are the kind of main transportation I. Sri Lanka. This hotel doesn't allow TUK TUK s eith5 guests in it. The irony is...thid particular hotel used to drive on COW CARTS.
I guess they have cows working inside the hotel and they are ok with COW CARTS..
FYI: You are still in a third world hotel.

Not the most modern hotel but it has class. Awesome buffet dinner and the chilli crab is the best.Given the ridiculous traffic in Colombo, it was hard to leave the hotel as it had so much to offer.

Peaceful large Hotel - staff had a great attention to detail and were exceptional.
Plenty of places to eat about 5 I think. Enormous choice.
We were here for a wedding and a short holiday...
Can't recommend it enough.
High tea is not the kind of thing I take - so can't comment.

The building and grounds are absolutely beautiful if you like old world. Unfortunately there were two wedding receptions on and even though we were on the third floor the music was so loud it was we were in the room next door. We were promised that the music would go off at 11:30pm, which is not much consolation at 9:30pm when we knew that the next night we would be on an international flight with no sleep at all. Unacceptable..... See More
