If accruing future, large personal debt is no issue, GA is a GREAT PLACE to get "hands on" training in many areas of Web Technologies! Wish GA's policies would change with the times --- such that acce...pted GA students would never incur debt; rather GA would test, and CERTIFY its student graduates, and then selectively place its students into FT positions best suited for their talents. From this point on, as FT employees, an income percentage would be taken out regularly from the employee's paycheck to sufficiently repay what would otherwise be seen as a very burdensome loan. Removing the "high risk" factor of being stuck having to paying back a huge loan is ethical. Also, thorough Pre-Assessment Testing with all IT Education Facilities should be mandated all for prospective students which would greatly reduce the risk of those who may not be able to successfully complete the curriculum in the long haul. I love General Assembly. They create an incredible community of creators and innovators. They day I came they were having an event sponsored by UBER! I mean how cool is that being involved with someth...ing that already has clout in the tech industry for an affordable cost. It's totally worth the investment if you're contemplating a career in tech. They're classes are hands on and teach you real world tactical information that can be used and benefit your business today. I can't wait for my next class! See More

This #BlackHistoryMonth we’re celebrating trailblazers who made strides in education and helped inspire others to do the same.

✏️ Alexander Lucius Twilight (1795–1857) was, in 1823, the first known African-American to graduate from a U.S. college. He became a grammar school principal, and later, in Vermont, the first black American elected to a state legislature.

✏️ Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955), an educator, founded what was then one of the only colleges that African-Ameri...cans could attend. She was also an activist and served as an adviser to President Roosevelt.

✏️ Alain Leroy Locke (1885-1954) graduated from Harvard and was the first black Rhodes Scholar. He went on to receive a doctorate in philosophy, then chaired Howard University’s department of philosophy. He was also the philosophical architect of the Harlem Renaissance.

✏️ Marie Daly (1921–2003) was the first African-American woman to earn a doctorate in chemistry in the U.S. She taught college-level biochemistry while also conducting important research on arteries and the effects of cigarette smoke on the lungs.

How do you stay up to date in your field?

GA UX Design Immersive instructor Rachel Wendte suggests following top designers on Twitter to gain new insights and inspiration. Some other great resources she recommends: "The email newsletters from Marvel App and InVision are stellar — it’s great content that addresses tools, best practices, and think pieces on trends and struggles. I also recently started Daily UI to refresh my design chops; it provides you with a fairly broad prompt each day and encourages you to share your progress."
