This #BlackHistoryMonth we’re celebrating trailblazers who made strides in education and helped inspire others to do the same.
✏️ Alexander Lucius Twilight (1795–1857) was, in 1823, the first known African-American to graduate from a U.S. college. He became a grammar school principal, and later, in Vermont, the first black American elected to a state legislature.
✏️ Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955), an educator, founded what was then one of the only colleges that African-Ameri...cans could attend. She was also an activist and served as an adviser to President Roosevelt.
✏️ Alain Leroy Locke (1885-1954) graduated from Harvard and was the first black Rhodes Scholar. He went on to receive a doctorate in philosophy, then chaired Howard University’s department of philosophy. He was also the philosophical architect of the Harlem Renaissance.
✏️ Marie Daly (1921–2003) was the first African-American woman to earn a doctorate in chemistry in the U.S. She taught college-level biochemistry while also conducting important research on arteries and the effects of cigarette smoke on the lungs.
These women prove you should never stop learning.

How do you stay up to date in your field?
GA UX Design Immersive instructor Rachel Wendte suggests following top designers on Twitter to gain new insights and inspiration. Some other great resources she recommends: "The email newsletters from Marvel App and InVision are stellar — it’s great content that addresses tools, best practices, and think pieces on trends and struggles. I also recently started Daily UI to refresh my design chops; it provides you with a fairly broad prompt each day and encourages you to share your progress."
