We started out the day laying about 5000 feet of sod in the middle of the road between the red lion and the globe. We made new friends in the process. All the bands were amazing! Real life rockaz kill...ed it as always. And nahko and medicine for the people were exactly that! Medicine for the people! And let's not forget jus wright, another local act that crushed it as well. If you haven't heard nahko and medicine for the people yet. You are missing out for sure! See More

Stephen Hawking inspired me before ALS - to keep asking questions, seeking answers, and understanding the cosmic perspective. But since ALS, he saved my life with his example - people diagnosed with ALS can continue to live productive & purposeful lives for decades. -SG

‪Please just “like” Steve’s application on @YouTube to help him get to the interview process! How cool would that be?! #NoWhiteFlags #AwesomeAintEasy

If I understand the application correctly, the applicant video(s) with the most likes advances to the interview process. With your help I'd like to be that applicant. I'm setting a goal of 5000 likes by this Friday. Can we do this together?! Here it is:

After eight seasons in NFL, Steve retired and got married to Michel Varisco in 2008. In 2011, Steve was diagnosed with ALS. Since his diagnosis, he and his f...

Last Thursday at the Steve's Birthday party, Inspire, Steve accepted Scott Fujita's ALS Pepper Challenge. Here is his message and challenge.

"Thanks to Scott Fu...jita for challenging me for the ALS Pepper Challenge. The hottest pepper I could find was, a Jalapeño, although, I’ve actually eaten an entire Habanero before, just for fun. Tonight, I will be downing a Jalapeño pepper, only more efficiently, then you ordinary humans.

I also want to give a shout out to another group, ALS TDI. I respect the work those guys are doing. They are on the fast track to raise 1 million for their ALS research, through people eating hot peppers.

While that’s incredible, I’m not going to drive a hot pepper into my feeding tube for anyone except our foundation, Team Gleason. And, I’m challenging the rest of you ordinary humans to do the same.

Here goes.

I’m challenging my buddy Chad Smith, the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, because it is just so appropriate.

Also, Coach Sean Payton, I know you're a tough guy, and you were so so so so hot up here tonight, so, I'm going to challenge you, so you can be hot on the inside too, Chad and Sean, you get to take the ALS Pepper Challenge, and donate to Team Gleason.

Let's do this."

What a great day for the ALS community! So many people will benefit from this! Thank you to all that took the time to reach out to their elected officials! #AwesomeAintEasy, as Steve says, but hopefully this can make things even a tiny bit easier, for those who desperately need it!

A Message From Steve:

While the Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act made it through the House last night in a broader legislative package, the Senate effort may b...e more challenging. I don’t subscribe to party issues, so it’s difficult for me to understand why this legislation is connected to so many diverse, yet important issues. Our issue is simple. People who have lost the ability to physically communicate, need this legislation to protect access to technology that allows them to connect with the world around them.

I am grateful for Senators Cassidy and Kobuchar for their leadership on the Senate Bill. I speak for the tens of thousands of those, like me, who are reliant on access to this technology, when I ask that the US Senate find a path to pass this important legislation.

The original Steve Gleason Act passed unanimously in both the House and Senate in 2015. Nothing has changed within this bill, except its permanence and the politics of it all. I believe our nation has the infrastructure and funds to provide technology for people who truly have no other voice. This is not an entitlement bill, it’s an empowerment bill, for people who want to be productive citizens. People with extreme disabilities need to communicate and be productive, and this Bill ensures access to that ability. -SG

Our hearts break for the loss of one of our amazing volunteers from Gleason Fest 2017, Mark Weigand. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Our volunteer coordinator, Stefanee Jean shared this wonderful memory of him. You will be greatly missed, Mark. 😥💔

I met Mark Weigand this summer. He was the very first one of my Phi Delta Theta - Washington Epsilon volunteers to show up for Gleason Fest. He was drenched in ...sweat from working so hard to build the stage, yet smiling his dazzling smile the entire morning. When I thanked him for all of his help he replied, "No, thank you for the opportunity. I'm always studying, so it is nice to get a break for some sun and fresh air!" It warmed my heart and made an indelible impression on me. A breath of fresh air, indeed. You will be greatly missed. ❤️

For the past 6 years our focus has been to provide the resources to people living with ALS so they can remain productive, continue to live with purpose, and to ...keep exploring. As much as we have done, our goal is to help so much more. With your help, we can do this! -SG

Team Gleason was so grateful to be invited to the dedication of the first home in the Coeur d'Alene area built specifically for the challenges faced by people with ALS and their families. What Matt's Place Foundation, Inc. has been able to accomplish in just two short years is beyond amazing! So thrilled for the Martin Family to have a new, safe place to call home. Thankful to Matt & Teresa Wild and all that have supported them and their mission. This project was their first, but definitely won't be their last. Congrats & thanks to all involved for all you're doing for ALS patients and their families in the Inland Northwest. #NoWhiteFlags #AwesomeAintEasy
