GHC not only cares for a better health system in the countries they are working in but also cares for the well-being of the patients emotional side. Knowing the human qualities of the dedicated group ...of GHC workers, I know that any battle they take on is on the winning side. Being the mother of the President, I am assured that GHC will be driven to a very successful launch. I am very proud of my daughter's qualities and the team's working with her. See More

Global Health Charities added 4 new photoscelebrating birthdays.

Today we celebrate birthdays! Lots and lots of HAPPY, HEALTHY BIRTHDAYS!

We have now assembled 10,023 Clean Birth Kits for women and infants in underdeveloped countries! These kits have, and will, potentially touch the lives of over 20,000 human beings--both mama and baby (and their families and communities)!

Thank you to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, South Oakland Shelter and our youth team! The 96 kits we assembled put us over the 10,000 mark, and although we didn't have cake..., we're celebrating BIRTHDAYS today!

Through a partnership between a small community of religious Filipino Sisters whose ministry is serving the poor in the Philippines, the Diocese of Joliet (IL), The Poor Household of God (a nonprofit supporting the Sisters), Presence Health and GHC, 500 birthing kits were sent to the Sisters in Borongan, Eastern Samar, Philippines a few months ago.

This week, we received an email from Mary Jane Trinkus from The Poor Household of God with some exciting news. The kits were tran...sported to the far-flung village of Burak, where there were 11 pregnant women. Ms. Trinkus said that after the terrible typhoon Yolanda a few years ago, deliveries were free, but that only lasted for 24 months. Below is the current situation for a pregnant woman:

-Deliveries at home are not allowed.
-All women must go to a rural health clinic or a hospital to have their babies.
-The closest rural health unit is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away with the only transportation being by motorcycle or motorized tricycle.
-A jeepnie (similar to a small bus) makes just one stop a day in the village.
-Each vaginal ’normal’ delivery cost 2000 pesos=$40.00.
-The supplies the pregnant woman needs to bring cost about 1000 pesos=$20.00.

This village is quite poor, and the birthing kits were able to save the family the $20 expense.

Each pregnant woman received a kit. Kits were also given to the rural health clinic.

These kits were assembled by PRESENCE HEALTH in Chicago and MERCY HIGH SCHOOL students in Farmington Hills!

Thank you to all of our partners--together we can help women and infants experience a dignified, clean birth and avoid infection-related deaths. Know that your work is and will continue to make a difference.

Thank you to Mary Jane Trinkus for the beautiful photos!

At GHC, we love good stories. About college students and bake sales and Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and INITIATIVE!

On November 14th, GHC received an email from Ms. Olivia Whitcomb, a college student at the University of the South in TN. Her new Rotaract college club had been working on raising money for Global Health Charities' Birth Kit Project and wanted to donate. We did not know these students. We did not ask them. They took it upon themselves to choose an organization that ...resonated with them and hold a Baked Goods/Chick-fil-A sale, with all proceeds going to GHC.

We admire their energy, initiative, heart, and concern for their global neighbor. This club is going to be successful. Without a lot of fanfare, they organized, baked, sold baked goods (“Muffins for Mama’s”) and Chick-fil-A sandwiches (“Biscuits for Babies”), talked about GHC, and made an impact.

Kudos to Olivia and this GREAT group of young people, the Rotaract Club, and the University of the South for their part in producing global citizens.

We asked them to talk about why they did it and send pics, and they sent this beautiful video. We will be sending them pics/video of where their kits will go, so they can see the impact of their work!

Every year, approximately 4.5 million infants and over 303,000 women die due to childbirth, the majority in developing countries. One major cause is infection due to birthing conditions and lack of access to clean supplies. These women and babies can be saved by providing simple items like a clean r...

St. Mary Mercy Hospital Livonia, here are the clean birth kits that your graduating nurses assembled a week ago, arriving in Nigeria! I was so pleased to be able to personally deliver these to the RAiSE Foundation which is working on infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria, as I was coming to Nigeria for meetings anyway! After 32 hours of air travel (not the most direct of routes!) and a 3 hour drive to Minna, they have been delivered! Nigeria accounts for 2.4% of the worlds population but 40% of the world's maternal deaths! Thank you for making a difference! These kits save lives!

St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, the clean birth kits you assembled last week went with Patty Williams from the GHC office in Farmington to the car to the airport! They are now with her in Washington DC! The next stop is Addis Ababa, Ethiopia!

She emptied one bin and placed them in her suitcase to save the cost of one extra luggage!
