Hi everybody I just wanted to chat with you a little bit today. I know Labor Day is coming up and if you're like me and our family, you're gonna try to find a little bit of time to be out on the Lake or out on the water enjoying outdoor activities but I wanted to talk to you about something that the state of South Dakota has been dealing with recently and that is that we have recently discovered with game fish and parks help that we have zebra muscles in Lake sharp They had previously been found in Lake Francis case and so now we have two lakes along the Missouri River which are infested with Muscles. we'll see some signs like this posted along these lakes that talk about the fact that these waters need to be treated very differently and actually today I'm gonna ask you to treat all of our waters in South Dakota differently going forward We need to protect our natural resources We need you to take different action if you're a voter if you have a boat on the water this weekend when you take your boat out of the water, pull the plug that is the only way to protect us from the spread of zebra muscles throughout the state These muscles are in aquatic invasive species. They multiply rapidly They're very damaging to our waters ecosystems they're filter feeders so they eat a lot of food that are other fish and wildlife would need to eat. They wash up on shore have very sharp shells that will damage our shorelines and will cut an injured people as they're recreating out on the shorelines and they also will clog up arrogation systems and be very hard on equipment, boats, docks, and everything going forward So obviously you can see why Do not wanna find zebra muscles in all of our lakes across the state of South Dakota. We need to protect the rest of our waters and we can only do that with your help So please talk to people about what they need to do. If they are out boating on the waters they need to pull their plug as soon as that book comes out of the water It just takes one person to forget to do that that maybe in Lake Sharp Lake Francis case and they go to another Lake and now now that Lake is infested So we're going to continue as a state to really focus and raise attention on this. We're also To continue to put more resources out and making sure that we're cooperating with Lake associations with neighbors, I've asked all my agencies and departments to use every opportunity to talk about the fact that we need to protect our water in the state of South Dakota and inform people about the action that needs to happen to protect the rest of the lakes against zebra muscles. So this is a good indication of some of the signs that you will start to see more and more of across the state and we're just gonna ask you pull your plug if you transport any kind of water from Lake Sharp Lake Francis case to a Other Lake you will invest that Lake and we don't want to see that our state. So thank you so much for joining us. I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Enjoy your family but also just remember and remind people when you see them on the shorelines loading and unloading dogs to pull their plugs and and we'll make sure that we keep South Dakota wonderful Have a great day
