We took the trip last week on the train to the Grand Canyon and stayed in the hotel overnight. I was blown away by the whole experience. It was one of the best family trips we've ever taken. My thirte...en year old had a blast! From the wild west show, the car attendant, the musicians, and the train robbery the entire ride was something he will never forget. Benjamin led an amazing tour and took us to some breathtaking views while also talking to us about life up in the park as an employee. He was fun and we learned so much about the geology of the canyon, the wildlife, and also the history surrounding tourism as well as the explorers that trekked through the area. The hotel at the Depot was comfortable and the grounds were beautifully decorated since they were still running the Polar Express night rides. The town of Williams was fantastic as well. The neon lights and shops on route 66 were amazing. This is the sort of trip that you'll remember for the rest of your life... My son who normally talks non-stop about video games is now talking non stop about his experience at the Grand Canyon and the characters he got to see on the train. Thank you all for making us feel welcome and for giving us some amazing memories. See More

We had a great time. Our person on the train was Dee and she was wonderful. The train was great we had a great time and the room was good as well. The reason for the lower rating is because the bu...ffet provided by the hotel was terrible. All food was cold unless you got something cooked at the omelette station. The amount we paid for meals included was not cheap and in fact the first night my husband wasn’t even able to go to dinner. We had 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts there. All were bad. See More

My family has gone on the Polar Express train several times. My eight-year-old granddaughter loves going. This year was my one-year-old grandson’s first Polar Express ride. He had a ball even whe...n it got past his bedtime. Everyone enjoys hearing the telling of the “Polar Express” story, the yummy hot cocoa with chocolate chip cookies and singing along to the Christmas carols. Nothing tops the appearance of Santa with the “Believe” bells. The employees of the hotel, depot and aboard the train are very friendly. The hotel is very nice and so convenient. I would recommend staying the night, especially if you are on the 7:30pm train.

We actually had to make a change from our original date and received quick/courteous help over the phone to get that taken care it.

Remember to tip your personal train car “chefs.” Have fun and wear your pajamas. We plan to go again next year.

It was a fantastic experience... until the train broke down on the way back and we were stuck in the forest for 5 HOURS plus another to get back. We didn’t get back to our hotel until 11pm. We had our... 9 month old with us and ran out of formula. Updates were non existent for hours at a time, and the info we did get was false. We were told many tales of other trains that were going to push us, but still we waited.
After 5 hours we were pushed slowly back to the canyon, where we waited some more. We were eventually snuck off the train and put on a tram that held 30 people. Along with us and our baby, the only others that seemed to be pulled off the train were the “Luxury Passengers” leaving behind children and elderly that desperately needed to get out of there. I feel for the other 1100 passengers on the two trains that may still be trapped with little to no food or supplies. No one seemed to be in charge or have any idea what to do in this situation. Accidents happen, but taking more than 4 hours to even make a plan for what to do is ludicrous. There were reports of violent outbursts and panic attacks on the other train behind us.
Don’t leave your family’s safety to a small operation with apparently no regulation or protocol for emergencies- just make the one hour drive.

My sister and me flew in from Ky to spend time with my nephew and family. We drove into Williams on Sat. And took the train ride into the canyon on Sunday. This was such a wonderful experience. Our h...ostess for the day was Miss Conya Ray, and she was the hostess with the mostest.
We were traveling with a 13 month old and on the way back she became ill. Conya went out of her way to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely do this again as it enhanced my first visit to the Grand Canyon.
The only reason I gave it four stars is the buffet dinner that came with our package was fair at best.
The hotel was top notch.

I found Dia McColloch very non customer centric. After traveling across the country to find out the reservation had an incorrect date through Expedia. Expedia stated they could not find anyone at the ...hotel who would authorize an exchange for the incorrect date, not even the front desk manager. Expedida ended up giving a full refund also stating there are no rooms per the hotel manager for dates Nov 10 to 11th. Per the hotel manager there was a room available for 50% more than the original cost. However I over heard her staff stating there was a rooms available and even one at a lower cost.
Its terrible when someone who works in customer service has zero empathy for a travler of more than 10000 miles. Terrible and stressful experience!

We had a wonderful experience. We were traveling with our nephew, his wife and their 1 year old. The staff in the hotel and on the train were the best. My niece walked to the front desk to ask for ext...ra blankets and they arrived at the door before she got back. The hostess on the train 🚂, Conya Rae made the trip even greater. She was not only informative, she went above and beyond to accommodate us. My only not so great rating would be the dinner buffet, the salad could have been fresher and the food was not as hot nor fresh as it should have been. We will definitely be back all the way from Louisville KY See More

We loved everything from beginning to end. We took the train and stayed one night at the Maswik. The El Tovar restaurant is everything they say it is- excellent in every way. Having worked in hospital...ity- I give them all an A+ from beginning to end The staff exceeded our expectations at each encounter. The only negative was having our great time come to an end. We can’t wait to do it again!!! See More

The entire experience on the train ride was awesome. Our train host Conya Rae was the best! She made it so special for my kids. Her laugh and humor was the best. The train ride was great. The hotel a lot of fun too. I would give it a 5 but the older lady that works at front desk was not very friendly and helpful. But everyone else was great. All the employees that work on train and the gun show were fantastic!!! Highly recommend! See More

I used to travel here with my family when I was younger and lived it. Now I’m bringing my family and they loved it! Amazing experience!! The hotel staff is also amazing. My four year old left one of stuffed animals in the room and when I called lost and found they had it to me in two days!!! We will be returning for sure. See More

We did two nights at the hotel and the train trip. It was awesome! Very clean, entertaining and everyone was very nice and welcoming. Hotel room was super clean and very well appointed. Food was o...utstanding! We would definitely recommend to others. We had found website online and booked the package, not really knowing how it would be, and they far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is wonderful, the cafe is cozy , food very good and staff is excellent, especially Zina, our food server!! However, the lady working behind the gift counter Tuesday 12/5 morning needs improv...ement! I wanted to spend easily $100 plus on gifts but needed $5 cash back for my foodservers tip, as they only take tips in cash you cannot add it on your bill. She said her register wouldn't allow her to give cash, WHAT??? Needless to say I didn't purchase my gifts, and plus the ATM had been down, ugh!! You would think the gift shop employees would want to help the cafe employees. Lesson learned take cash for tips!! BTW, the polar express was AWESOME!! See More

Our train broke down on the way back from the Grand Canyon. We have been sitting on this train for over 4 hours!!! With NO information!! We have been pulled backwards to the Grand Canyon with no info...rmation about when we will arrive back in Williams...
At this point, I would advise extreme caution when considering Grand Canyon Railway for vacation! What a mess!

I haven't ridden a train since BART in San Fran in the mid 80s, and I hadn't bee back to the Grand Canyon in over 40 years - the experience was wonderful. There was no time to be bored! Our PSA Jeffre...y was a wonderful person and a font of excellent information. The FIRST entertainer going UP on Tuesday was great, guy in the top hat. The second, not so much, and when he tried to enlist the tourist with the bagpipes that sounded like a tortured cat...well...Still, I haven't had this much fun in a single day in a very, very, long time. Thank you. See More

Great food, service, very enjoyable. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, it really seemed like they went out of their way to accommodate us. The PSA’s were very entertaining and pointed out a g...reat deal of information about things along the route and the town of Williams. Doug was great. See More

A truly magical holiday journey! From the moment the train pulls into the station, the experience unfolds just like the book with special, well-orchestrated moments along the way (I won't spoil it for... you!). Our little guy is still talking about it! See More

Can you help my friends who live in Prescott have 4 kids Jason and Angela Sewell were suppose to be on the Polar Express right now, but Kylie started throwing up in the parking lot. Kids devastated. ...Parents disappointed, but are impressed with how well the kids handled their disappointment. Tickets are non-refundable they can afford to try again next year. See More

Overall nice experience. We purchased the hotel, meals and train package. The whole train experience was excellent. The meals at the hotel were buffet style and the breakfast was good. I would not re...commend the diner buffet at night. Food at night was below average at best and absolutely identical both nights. The town of Williams has what appears to be a decent selection of nice little restaurants with a better variety and I would hope would be better quality. See More

This was our first time up to the Grand Canyon and we had booked the trip as a package. The service and accommodations far exceeded our expectations and there was literally not a single thing that we ...felt could've been improved, all details accounted for!
Most definitely would do it all again!
