Last week's Habitat on the Hill was a great experience for our Mississippi team. Ginger and Johnny Pettit from Pontotoc Habitat for Humanity came for the first time and were given a very warm welcome by Senator Roger Wicker who was born and raised in Pontotoc. Also pictured with the Senator are Chris Monforton, CEO of HFH MS Gulf Coast and Melissa Reed Graves, Director of Mississippi's Habitat State Support Organization.

Affordable housing is a national crisis and so are poverty wages.

If you haven't heard of the RV Care-A-Vanners, you need to! There are thousands of the RV-ers who travel the country building for Habitat affiliates. They were instrumental in Katrina recovery because they brought their own "houses" to a region that lost all of theirs. And they have so much fun!!!

Mississippi has 7 Habitat affiliates working to serve housing needs in the Mississippi Delta. But home ownership can't happen without jobs. Neither can health. In the midst of the Delta's fertile land is food scarcity.

A community is connected by the problem of food scarcity and its consequences — despite the vast, fertile land just under their feet.

A good read on the dedication of President and Mrs. Carter to Habitat for Humanity through the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. We were honored to host the Carters in 2008 and appreciate all their hard work.

Yes it was hot today but we had 16 volunteers to cut the grass, work on soffit, and tack down felt on floor before top layer of plywood is nailed in place.
