- The Hartford Ridge Riders are one of the original clubs in the Washington County Association of Snowmobile Clubs. We were founded in 1969. A trail system was established to connect with other clubs. Some of our members traveled to the first meetings of what is now the New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA). In the early days the club had snowmobile grass drags to help pay the bills. Later, Garden Tractor and Truck Pulls were held at John and Ann O’Hara’s. Members spent all week keeping the track in shape, the grass mowed, and the pulling sled in working order for the Saturday night pulls. Scales and lights were installed and many good events were held on the clay track. Grooming was first done with a home built drag pulled by a used twin-track Alpine.
By 2002 we had 4 Skandic snowmobiles pulling 4’ Frenchie style drags. Our first class B groomer was a used Bombi with a Peru style drag. We now have 2 Skandic snowmobile groomers (w/4’ drags) and three larger units, a 2000 ZR-2 Blazer (w/7’multi-blade), a 1996 Chevy Blazer (w/7’multi-blade), and a 1991 Geo Tracker (w/6’multi-blade), all converted with track kits from Maine. Our meetings are held the second Thursday of each month (September- June) at the new Hartford Firehouse at 7:30 pm. You are invited and encouraged to join us.
