On March 27, 1808, Joseph Haydn made his last public appearance at a performance of his oratorio The Creation given in honor of his upcoming 76th birthday.

Day 2 of the Banff International String Quartet Competition has been full of more great Haydn. From Concert 3, the Rolston String Quartet's Opus 77 #1 was animated, nuanced and playful. And we loved how much fun the Castalian String Quartet was clearly having in their Opus 76#1. They found a way to bring out Haydn's many small gestures and multiple moods while preserving the larger shapes.
