Creating Groups
To create a group:
  1. Click in the top right of Facebook and select Create Group.
  2. Enter your group name, add group members and then choose the privacy setting for your group.
  3. Click Create.
Once you create your group, you personalize it by uploading a cover photo and adding a description.

Joining Groups
To join a group, go to a group and click + Join Group below the cover photo.
Depending on the group's settings, you may have to wait for a group admin to approve your request.
Keep in mind when you join a group:
  • People may see when you join a public or closed group or that you're a member of that group, like in News Feed or search.
  • When someone adds you to a public or closed group, others may see that you've been invited (ex: in News Feed or search). Once you visit a group you're invited to, you'll become a member and other people may see you joined.
  • Certain groups on Facebook have their privacy setting set to secret and may not appear in search results. You can see them once a group member adds you.

You can join up to 6,000 groups. Once you reach this limit, you'll need to leave some groups before you can join new ones.

Facebook suggest groups we think you might like to join based on the following factors:
  • Pages you’ve liked.
  • Public or Closed groups your friends are members of.
  • Public or Closed groups similar to other groups you’re a member of.
  • Public or Closed groups that are in your neighborhood or near you.

To see a list of your groups:
  1. Go to your home page.
  2. Go to the left side menu and click Groups.
From here, you'll see the groups you manage, the groups you're in and the groups you've hidden.

To add new members to a group:
  1. Go to the group you want to add members to.
  2. Click Add Members below the group photo.
  3. Enter the names of the people you want to add and then click Add.
You can also add people by entering their name or email below Add Members in the top right of the group page. For all types of groups—Public, Closed and Secret—group members can add anyone who's a friend of someone in the group.
Note: If you add people to a group, a group admin may need to approve the request before they can join.

Sharing to a Group
To post to a group, go to the group and click Write something...
From here you can:
  • Write a post
  • Add a photo or video
  • Add a poll
  • Select More and choose from additional options such as add file, recommendations, create photo album, create file and create event.
Group members get notified about all new posts in a group unless they choose to adjust their group notification settings. If group privacy is set to Closed or Secret, only group members will be able to see things that get posted in the group.

If your group has fewer than 250 people, messages and posts will be marked as Seen after they're read. If your group reaches 250 members or more, you’ll no longer see who’s seen messages and posts.
For messages or posts that have been seen:
  • A will appear next to each post to indicate how many group members have seen it.
  • Hover over the to find out who's seen it.
  • Anyone who can view the group post will see the .
Keep in mind that if people see a group post or message, it doesn't always mean they had the chance to read it carefully.

To turn on notifications, click in the top right of the post and select Turn on notifications for this post.
If you change your mind, select Turn off notifications for this post.
Keep in mind that notifications are automatically turned on for posts you write or comment on.
Note: You can adjust the notifications you receive from group activity by choosing what you're notified about for the group.

To create a poll in a group:
  1. Go to the group.
  2. Click More next to Write Something.
  3. Click Create Poll.
  4. Enter a question and then click Add an Option... to enter options for group members to select.
  5. Click Post.
Keep in mind that only group members can vote on polls.

To choose what you're notified about in a group, go to a group and click Notifications below the cover photo.
From here, you can select:
  • All Posts: You'll get notifications any time members post in the group.
  • Highlights: You'll get notifications for suggested posts and posts from your friends.
  • Friends' Posts: You'll get notifications whenever your friends post.
  • Off: You won't get notifications when members post.
Note: If a group you're in reaches 250 members or more, its notification setting will be set to Highlights by default. This setting can be changed later.

To search for posts in a group:
  1. Go to a group and click Search this group on the left.
  2. Enter names or keywords that appear in the post or the comments of the post you're searching for.
  3. Filter search results by selecting options on the left.

Deleting or Leaving a Group
To leave a group, go to the group, click Joinedat the top and then select Leave Group.
When you leave a group:
  • Members won't be notified
  • You're removed from the member list and the group will be removed from your list of groups
  • You'll no longer get group notifications
  • People will no longer know when you've seen a group post, even if you saw it before you left the group

To archive a group, log into Facebook on your computer or Android device.
If you're an admin of a group, you can delete or archive it. Groups are deleted when they have no members. Deleting a group is a permanent action that cannot be reversed. When a group is archived, it won't appear in search results to non-members, and no new members can join the group. Learn more about the differences between deleting and archiving a group.
To delete a group:
  1. Go to the group you want to delete and click Members on the left.
  2. Click next to each member's name and select Remove from Group.
  3. Select Leave Group next to your name once you've removed the other members.
Note: If you're an admin, you can't delete a group you didn't create unless the original creator chooses to leave it.
To archive a group:
  1. Go to the group you want to archive and click below the cover photo.
  2. Select Archive Group.
  3. Click Confirm.
