  • You'll get messages in your inbox from people who you're friends with on Facebook.
  • If you get a message from someone you're not friends with on Facebook, you'll get a connection request.
  • Spam messages are filtered out of your requests.

Message requests tell you when someone you're not friends with on Facebook has sent you a message. Learn how to check message requests.
Messages from Facebook friends will go to your inbox and messages we think are spam will be filtered out of your requests. Learn more about the messages you'll get in your inbox.

If someone who you're not connected with on Facebook sends you a message, you'll receive a message request.
To see your message requests on Facebook:
  1. Click in the top right of Facebook
  2. Click Message Requests in the top left of the menu
  3. Click See filtered requests
From here, click the message request and choose:
  • Accept to open the conversation
  • Delete to remove the request
Keep in mind that if you delete a message request, you won't be able to see the message again. If you want to chat with someone who sent a request you deleted, you can send them a message. Your message will go to their message requests.
