FILM FACT: When Emil (Mark Forte) talks about "not-safe" nuclear testing in a nearby county, he's referring to a real incident that took place in what many locals refer to as the "Tatum Salt Dome."
"Salmon Site is a 1,470-acre (5.9 km2) tract of land in Lamar County, Mississippi, near Baxterville. The tract is located over a geological formation known as the Tatum Salt Dome and is the location of the only nuclear weapons test detonations known to have been performed in the eastern United States."
Another nice review for Hickory Never Bleeds:
"I expected a typical 'found footage' effort complete with stock characters and boring stretches of needless walking scenes etc. What i found was a wonderfully written movie with compelling characters. The lead even has a character arc! In all seriousness this was a great little indie horror/sci-fi film with a thoughtful premise, writing and performances that keep you from noticing when there are no 'horror' scenes happening. Highly recommended."

Despite the humorous tone of Hickory Never Bleeds, the spark for the story started with this quote:
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. ...” -- C.S. Lewis
Initially planned as a more dramatic film about Leland constantly tempting death in favor of surrendering to the love of his childhood sweetheart, it transitioned into a quirky southern comedy, with the more "serious" element coming in under the radar.
