Here's the full explanation we posted about a month ago!
"So. We've been Hollow Point Eyes for almost two years now... The concept is based around a l...ine in a My Chemical Romance song "Bulletproof Heart" in which there is the line: "I've got a Bulletproof Heart, You've got a hollow point smile". That line is a reference to Hollow Point bullets, which are armor piercing rounds (They explode on impact). The concept being, that if your heart was bulletproof, a hollow point smile (or Eyes in our case) would be the only thing strong enough to break through. That's what it's always meant to me. That's what it's always meant to all of us.
But due to the recent tragedies that befell Newtown connecticut and the rest of our world collaterally, the name has been changed forever in all of our minds to mean something tragic, and painful. When we hear our own name, it is connected instantly in our minds to that incident and that feeling. We feel that not only would it be horribly disrespectful to keep our name, it would bring each of us individually back to a memory of people and day of heartache unimaginably vast.
We have decided to change our band name to completely dissociate ourselves in every way from the life destroying man that assaulted an elementary school in connecticut and the bullets that he had loaded in his gun. for the moment, we will be The Band Formerly Known As Hollow Point Eyes in hopes of deciding on a new name as soon as possible. It is our great pleasure to announce that the Band Formerly Known as Hollow Point Eyes, is now, The Slightlys.
Band names are a weird thing; In the first moments of seeing or hearing them, they often seem abstract, or confusing or misleading. However, as soon as the initial impact is through, a band name, is just a brand. A name and a logo on the cover of whatever the band is. The Slightlys, Is not a new band. It's not a differ...ent band. It's the same four kids, making music in a garage, just under a different name.
If you're able to accept our name the way that we all accept every strange band name that we see everyday, then that's GREAT. So many cool bands, and the crowd was great! Thanks to everyone who came out to support us. We hope to see everyone at next weeks event, which is the final round of the competition, where the winner will be announced at the end of the night.
