Very very proud to present the long awaited Helga in all her finished glory. For those that are new to our page, when Helga first arrived she was still very much a horse-box (complete with hay and poo!) We fully stripped the box, planed the timber back and blasted and repainted the frame. With the addition of lots of engineering and customisations, we built her back up from scratch and added heaps of off-grid wizardry behind the scenes so that her owners can truly be home, wh...erever in the world they choose to park up.
Special thanks to Simon and Gemma who have literally been an absolute dream to work with on this project, and their eye for style and design has spoilt us with fresh ideas and inspiration for this build. We hope you both enjoy having her as much as we've enjoyed building her for you. Thanks also to all our suppliers and friends who all too often go above and beyond to help us facilitate this crazy thing that we somehow have managed to carve a living out of doing.
Finally massive love and thanks to our old friend and photographic genius Will Bunce, who has managed to really capture and document Helga in a fashion that does her justice (www.willbunce.com) and we also had a blast having him over last Saturday for the shoot (hangover has just about subsided!)
Also there will be a full (and well made!) video tour coming soon as we were lucky enough to have a visit from The Indie Projects on Sunday so are really looking forward to seeing what they come up with. There's a little trailer for the full tour available here...
We have no less than 3 new conversions about to begin at our workshop near Glastonbury so stay locked to witness the process we go through on here, on our new instagram (@houseboxhousebox) and also on our (in much need of an update) website (www.house-box.co.uk) Exciting times! Finally a big thanks to everyone who takes the time to look at, 'like' and share what we do with the people they know. It's truly humbling for us that so many people seem to care what we get up to.
Hope you all enjoy the pics. Cheers now,
Dean, Jake and Zack House-Box
This looks truly fantastic; please support
The Bus Shelter Dorset is a registered charity set up to relieve the need of people sleeping rough in Dorset by providing shelter, warmth, food and support.
We ...have converted a double decker bus into a shelter with beds for 14 men and 3 women.
We believe that if people have their basic needs of sleep, food, water, warmth and safety met they will be able to work positively on achieving their goals and improving their future.
The bus offers rough sleepers with a local connection somewhere safe to stay and call home while they are there. Our staff and volunteers support them to access local services and integrate back into the community.
In order to be allocated a bed guests sign an agreement which outlines the expectations of staying on the bus and the main criteria is willingness to engage in support and make changes to their current lifestyle.
Guests are encouraged to participate in voluntary work and engage with local community activities.
Thank you for your support and if there is anything else you would like to know then please drop us a message...
You can support The Bus Shelter Dorset by donating through the link at the top of this page. All donations go towards the running of the Bus and directly supporting rough sleepers in Dorset 🚌
For those that like their holidays remote!

Woo hoo - It's competition time again! Our wonderful friends over at the fantastic Urban Nomads blog are giving away a winter wonderland stay in the original House-Box up in the beautiful Kinton Cosy Camping. Get involved and wishing everyone a cracking festive season.
Here at House-Box we often get asked where we source particular things, and one of the most critical items for any build is timber. With so many variables involved and potential pitfalls in what is often an expensive investment, it’s really important to go to the right place. Our friends over at Timberclad in Somerset are absolute legends. We’ve never met anyone more knowledgeable about what they sell at every stage of its existence; from being rooted in soil all the way to b...eing skilfully machined and delivered to your build. They also are experts in quality beautiful finishes which they can also supply. On top of that they’re two of the nicest people we have ever had the pleasure of working with, real craftspersons whose love in what they do is clearly seen in what they produce. They have a new page on Facebook so go and show them some love. Certified House-Box approval 👌👌👌👌👌
So after our brief wander into the wilderness of Glastonbury Festival (where we run a small stage fashioned from an old boat - naturally!) we are back and full steam ahead with some really exciting projects in our newly revamped workshop. Very happy house-boxers here!
One of the 3 projects we have begun is the lovely "Luna"
Her absolutely fantastic owners (and recently married-congrats guys!) have a great page up and running on Facebook themselves already. As well as updates from the build, they also post loads of other great content so do yourselves a favour and go give it a like

And here's the science bit!
We've been really astonished by all the attention Helga has received. We were really fortunate to have a visit from the delightful Theo and B from The Indie Projects who spent a long day filming Helga a couple weekends ago and have put together this great video. It goes into quite a bit of detail about the technical aspects of the off grid systems and explains in more depth some of the building and conversion processes.
There are loads of great tou...rs from Theo and B on their page so be sure to check them out.
Finally we're still working through a backlog of messages - please don't be offended if we haven't replied to you yet - theres only one or 2 of us here to do absolutely everything so thanks for you patience, we're not ignoring you!
Have a great weekend everyone

Where it all began.....
NOW AVAILABLE TO RENT https://www.canopyandstars.co.uk/…/the-house-box-at-kinton-…&
Welcome to all our new friends and followers! We've had a simply jaw dropping response to our post about Helga last week. It's taken us completely by surprise and we're massively flattered by all the lovely comments, shares and views. Apologies if you've sent us a message or left a comment and haven't had a reply. We're just a couple craftsmen in a shed in deepest darkest Somerset so are really struggling to find time to reply to all of you alongside building weird and wonderful things for lovely people. Please be patient, we're not being rude and ignoring you! And we'll aim to get back to you as soon as we can.
The House-Box featured in the pictures below is where the story all started. This is Dean and Hannahs original House-Box; a lovingly restored and converted Bedford TK. We lived in this full time for 3 years and it was simply wonderful. We decided we wanted to live 'off-grid' and as cheaply as possible, but we also wanted all the luxuries afforded by a traditional bricks and mortar home. That's why behind all the handcrafted rustic charm of our conversions, lies real innovative cutting edge green technologies; to allow the end user all the freedoms afforded by living in such a space, without sacrificing the creature comforts so many of us have grown accustomed to.
The original House-Box is now available for holiday lets in a breathtaking remote location nestled in the Wales/England border mountains straddling Shropshire and Powys. The host Frankie is easily one of the coolest human beings we have ever met and will ensure your stay has everything you could dream of. If you want to go as a group she also has a stunning yurt adorned by a carousel of colour, and she is also busily beavering away creating wonderful new genius spaces to stay launching later this year.
Hope you enjoy the pics and welcome once again to our new friends
