Motivator. Tangible, visual progress. It is The BEST way to budget inconsistent income, as well as those who have regular paychecks. I like how simple it is to ...use, yet it does more than the basics, like memorizing monthly expenses, goals for each category, notes to record info about that category, flags to mark them for attention, and simple reconciliation process! I especially appreciate how I can allocate my 3 month emergency fund to the next 3 months of living expenses! The app works flawlessly, and I appreciate how I can account and update my spending within 5 seconds of spending the money, and can easily see whether there is money in that budget account BEFORE spending! Budgets are easy to change when something comes up, you simply re allocate the money to where you need it :), just like moving cash from one envelope to another. Another great feature is the credit card accounting. You must be spending from a budgeted category, and when recording the spending, it immediately moves it to the CC, so that you have the money in the account when the bill arrives! No more playing with the float, it becomes simply a tool to pay off your expenses in one payment, the way I consider it meant to work! See More

Best $5/month I have ever spent in my life. Seriously. I went from being paycheck to paycheck to saving about $8K this year. It's a little complicated to unders...tand at first because it forces you to think proactively about your money (where am I going to spend this money?) versus looking retroactively at your spending (where did all my money go?). Once you get the hang of it, you become obsessed. I love this program. See More

I have been using YNAB for 7 months now with great success. I have also helped friends get going on it and it is really an incredible product. What I like the m...ost is that it really has nothing to do with the software itself; it has everything to do with the philosophy behind it. YNAB has helped me get in the right frame of mind regarding personal finances so that I can set and attain financial goals and really work towards constant growth and happiness in life. I would highly recommend this product. See More

My husband and I have been using YNAB for about 3 years(starting with the old version), and I can honestly say that it's completely turned our financial lives a...round. YNAB's budgeting system is so flexible and easy to use - it paid for itself when we set up our budget for the first time! We learned that budgeting isn't about depriving yourself, it's about prioritizing what's most important to you, so you can actually get everything that you want in life! Today, thanks to YNAB, we have zero consumer debt, a healthy emergency fund, and half our mortgage paid off! Budget and be free! See More

Incredibly, horribly frustrating so far. I can see its usefulness but right now I'm completely hamstrung by stupid design that makes it impossible to do real s...imple and necessary tasks. Hopefully this will improve, but if I can't figure out how to delete a transaction after half an hour of knowledge base searches, helpfile reading and googling, I question whether this is just a poorly designed product. YNAB is awesome. I would give it 5 stars but the website has more issues than I'd like. It's frustrating when it doesn't sync and trees no fix for it. Or when ...transactions randomly disappear. Or when you simply can't load the page at all.

Outside of this fairly common issues the layout of the site and the program itself is great and I'll continue to use it.

We love YNAB. There program is a great tool for budgeting. Even my 12 year old and 10 year old use it. Within the first 6 months of using it, we learned where o...ur money was actually going and saved so much that we were able to take a family vacation for the very first time without having to worry about whether we had enough money or not. It has been such a great help. See More

I love YNAB. I have been using it for a few years, first as a single mom, and now with my husband in our busy home with four children and five pets. Hopefully... your budget needs are not as complex as mine, but if they are, YNAB can help you manage and fund all of your upcoming obligations. We even have a buffer in place as we prepare to fund the "College" category for our oldest child. See More

Hands down the best budgeting system I've ever tried. I've done pen/paper and even tried the envelope system. Neither had the flexibility I needed. Using YNAB I...'ve been able to "find" extra money each paycheck and I'm better prepared for the "unexpected routine" costs like auto registration and property taxes. I love the fresh start feature which allows me to reset my budget when things get wonky or I just need to adjust my approach due to changing circumstances. The customer support and education opportunities are a huge plus. So pleased with YNAB and the team that stands behind it. See More

YNAB has completely changed my life. I am a very visual person, and YNAB allows me to take the "aerial view" of my money. Rather than seeing a big scary account... balance that I have no idea what it's doing, I can see my money in little categories all broken down. If nothing else, the YNAB philosophy around goals and priorities has changed the way I view money entirely. On a concrete level, saving money for a purpose has never been easier, I never feel afraid to pay bills now, and I haven't overdrawn my accounts at all since beginning. Budgeting with YNAB has seriously improved my quality of life. See More

My husband and I started using YNAB over 2 years ago. It was suggested by close friends of ours. We've always "budgeted", but YNAB took our budgeting to a whole... new level. We now know exactly where our money is going and where we do most of our spending. People think being on a budget is hindering, but it has actually given us so much freedom. We save more, which means we enjoy more as well. We take great vacations because we save for them. If we have an unexpected expense, it's ok, because we have budgeted for them. We live with so much more margin now because of YNAB. I now suggest it to everyone I know! See More

I managed money using Quicken in my teens, then I used Mint through my 20s, and now I'm on to YNAB in my 30s. I have more control over my finances now than ever... before.

To be honest, it was really tough to shift my mindset/habits for the first couple of days but now I'm thrilled with it! (and they offer TONS of live training and support)

Really good set up, but folks who really need a budget may not be able to come up with $50 all at once for their yearly fee. Having a monthly fee would have made be a subscriber and not just a try-er.

It sounds crazy that I'm often moved to evangelize about budgeting by this bit of software but I love the philosophy of YNAB. Is the money you're earning doing ...what you want it to? It helps you decide what your real life priorities are so you can make them happen. Becoming more financially secure in the process is the bonus. See More

Thanks to YNAB, I have been able to have the most amount of money in our bank accounts EVER. Our bills are paid for, our savings are growing, we are going on ou...r very first vacation as a family in 7 years without debt! We are using YNAB to save for a downpayment on our first fixer-upper and get into real estate investing. I have been budgeting for years but we were always just treading water and still living paycheck-to-paycheck. Currently, I'm paying our bills with money that came in a month ago! I gush about YNAB so much to friends and family that I have built a reputation as the budget girl. Thanks YNAB! See More

YNAB is awesome, I tell all my friends and family about it. I use it to manage my family's budget and our small businesses' budget. The best part was once I started using YNAB, I could see that we could take a wage from the business and I could also go part time from my other job.

The blog is full of good advice, and the app is fantastic. I use YNAB4 (the old offline version), and it has been so much more helpful than Mint was. YNAB helps me be mindful of my spending and consequently save hand over fist. I highly recommend it!

We love YNAB, it gives us the freedom we need to have our budget available on-the-go! It's very flexible and our categories are able to be organized however we want them to be. Having YNAB helped us pay off over $13,000 in student loans by giving us an easy way to track our spending.

I really want to love this website but after playing around for a few hours I was still unable to get my bank transactions to sync with the app, therefore making it completely useless to me. :(

This app has helped our family imensely to control and manage our spending. It's the best app for budgeting I've used. I was a longtime mint user previously but mint never had any real budgeting tools, just expense tracking.

A fundamental mental shift while using the YNAB method is "finding the money first". Rather than make an impulsive expenditure, check your budget category so that you don't end up eating part of your motorbike!
