Unveiled today at The International Hotel Investment Forum, 2018 in Berlin where industry leaders are gathering this week, visitors can experience and interact with the new designs using virtual reality, including special features from our flagship hotels such as the ‘Plaza WorkSpace’ and ‘WorkLife Room’. All of this week, hundreds of hospitality students will take over some of our much-loved Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts UK hotels. It’s a great opportunity to give young, talented people an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the hospitality industry.

Great to see one of our GM’s featured on @Humans of Amsterdam recently. Mike is just another example of the rich diversity of talent we have right across IHG, who deliver True Hospitality every day.

‘’My mum raised me with the idea that if you want to have things, you need to work for it. I grew up in middle-class family in Washington D.C. I learned from an... early age that nothing in life comes for free. At thirteen I started working after school at a gas station as a cashier and I would contribute to the household. When I turned 18, I applied for the United States Army and I became a paratrooper. The army taught me so many things but most of all it taught me how to grow from uncomfortable situations.

When my contract in the army ended I started working as an auto mechanic. After a few years I got tired of that so I started think about other options. Every day on my commute to work I would pass by the Mariott. Inside of the hotel there was a little shop where I would sometimes buy some snacks. The hotel looked like a much more pleasant place to work than the garage I worked in so I applied for a job as over night desk agent and to my surprise they hired me. I really started at the bottom but I enjoyed working there.

After four years I left the job and I started to work for another hotel brand called Kimpton. I worked really hard and ended up getting promoted. Last year when all of a sudden I got a phone call and was asked if I was interested in moving to Amsterdam to open their first hotel I didn't need to think about it. Sometimes it is still hard to grasp. I came a long way.‘’
