“I greet everyone, spread a bit of laughter and make them feel happy.” Meet Louis, Concierge InterContinental Hong Kong.
“I have been working here for 22 years. I’ve learned every nook and cranny of this hotel, discovered the best photo spots, walked Hong Kong’s top wandering routes, and sampled the most authentic tastes in town. I even know how to get a hold of sold-out concert tickets. Passing all this onto our guests is the best part of my job.
I begin every day with the... first light of dawn shining across Victoria Bay. I make my way to the desk to welcome guests and take phone calls from around the world. It’s a daily routine I’ve known half of my life and I couldn’t be happier.
I greet everyone, spread a bit of laughter and make them feel happy. I believe, for them, every little detail when they stay here is important.
Many guests return again and again over the years, and now they’re like old friends. Some of them even brought me a birthday surprise this year – they honestly treat me more like a family member than a concierge! I love my job, and the everyday challenge of fulfilling guests’ needs gives me a real sense of success.”
Meet Pak, Gardener at InterContinental Bali Resort, who explains how his cows like to hit the beach.
“People who come to Bali are usually a bit surprised to see cows on the beach, but it’s part of everyday life for me. I take a pair of cows from our small herd down to Jimbaran Beach every morning and afternoon to help keep it in perfect condition. Together we go up and down the beach, combing it to keep it looking beautiful.
Looking after the local environment is a big part ...of my job, and as a hotel team we care a lot about eco awareness. We rake the beach every day in partnership with the local banjar (village council), and we decided to do it with our cows instead of a noisy machine. It’s more friendly to the environment that way, and it’s nicer for our guests who are out enjoying the sun.
When the cows breed, we give the calves to the local village. Hospitality comes in many different ways.”
Hello, is it tea you're looking for? Meet Simon, Front Office Manager Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts London - Kensington. #TrueHospitality #AnIHGhotel #LifeatIHG

True Hospitality is a bandaged bear, chocolates and champagne. Meet Rosa, Lobby Attendant at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, Colorado.
“I was delivering some extra towels to a room when the guest opened the door. I noticed right away that he was in a lot of pain and having trouble walking due to a bad leg injury. I asked if there was anything I could do for him and we had a nice chat together. Later on, I picked up a teddy bear, wrapped a bandage around its leg and left it in h...is room with some champagne, chocolates and a get well soon card.
He was so touched, he took a picture and posted it on Facebook to thank me. Not only did he do that, but he also gave me a bag which he had handmade himself! He said he’s a big fan of our Kimpton hotels, and comes back because of the people, not just the property. That bit meant the most, because for me, it was just my little way of saying we were thinking of him.”
Creating great hotels fish love. Meet Ushan, Marine Biologist @holidayinnresortkandoomamaldives. #TrueHospitality #AnIHGhotel #LifeatIHG

True Hospitality is making sure she says ‘yes’ - Meet Agung, Bell Service Manager at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach, Indonesia
“Lots of people dream of a marriage proposal on a tropical beach, and sometimes my team and I are lucky to be part of unique moments like that. A guest checking in one evening told me he wanted to propose to his girlfriend at sunset while they were here, but he had no idea how to go about it. He obviously wanted it to be special, so he asked for our... help. The challenge was that he wanted to do it the next day!
In less than 24 hours, we had organised a spot on the beach, a bouquet of flowers and a cake. We even had a live band from a beachfront restaurant nearby play ‘Will you marry me’ by Train. We put as much passion and emotion into it as we would for a friend or family member.
When the big moment came, we videoed it all live for the couple’s family back home in China. The guest’s girlfriend was so surprised that she cried – but she said yes! They were both full of smiles as they watched the sun go down. We just loved adding the extra touches to maybe the most important moment of their lives. It’s something he and his fiancée will remember forever.”
True Hospitality is comfort food, 2,500 miles from home. Meet George, Executive Sous Chef at InterContinental® Hangzhou, China.
“We have a regular Iranian guest who is always travelling on business, sometimes for long stretches. Whenever he’s in town, he stays with us. One day, on his way to dinner, this guest mentioned to a colleague of mine that he’d already eaten a fair share of our hotel’s Western dishes during what was a particularly long stay this time. That’s when I st...epped in. As a chef, I think all food should be exciting and I decided to give this guest the best of both worlds.
The next day, I reserved a table in a quiet, relaxing area of our Senses restaurant and prepared a mixture of our local specialities, alongside several of our guest’s favourite dishes from Iran. When he walked in and saw what was waiting for him on the dining table, his reaction was priceless. He was really moved. I’ll always remember him saying how hard it is not to miss home when you’re travelling so much for work. He said what we’d done had provided the warmth of home, right in our hotel. That was a pretty special feeling.” #TrueHospitality #LifeatIHG
