NJFTC Workshops have been very helpful. Teaching assistance experience with FTC Blocks track at the Southern Moorestown Workshop and loads of learning from the Northern NJIT workshop.

Where do we start Engineering Notebook, Sponsors, build concepts, Java etc etc.!

Rookie FTC teams should consider Block Programming as you can get your bot up and running in no time. There is no "build-download" step every time you make a change in the code.

Why are graphics better than text?
Novice programmers are fighting two battles at once: the fight to translate their ideas into logical statements, and the fight to keep the syntax legal. Blockly makes it completely impossible to make a syntax error. There are no unbalanced parentheses, no unescaped... strings, no missing semicolons. Blockly allows novice programmers to concentrate on the logic.

"Hi Mom - Having a great time at Summer Camp"

The FTCNJ 4-Day RoboCamp at Stevens is in full swing. Our 22 students have built and wired their Robots on Wednesd...ay/Thursday and spent Friday programming them.

This is the first FTCNJ Camp or Workshop to use Blocks Programming and it is a major success. No hassle in loading a software development environment, no compiling delays, ....just program with Blocks and get that robot moving!!!

For those not at the RoboCamp at Stevens, there will be another Camp at Yale School in Cherry Hill in late August, plus single day Workshops on August 5th (MFS) and August 19th (NJIT). All three of these training events feature Blocks Programming and all three still have room. Don't miss out!! Register via the New Jersey FTC Website's "Event Registration" page.

Go Teams! Go Blocks!

JDroids FTC off to a great start as well. All but 2 rookie members started the season with an outreach event at the Wayne Public Library introducing FIRST and D...esign thinking. 30 kids of ages 8 to 15 had signed up. Two activities building a LEGO vehicle that can be launched and a "popsicle bridge" that can hold the most weight was meticulously planned and executed.

One of the mentors summed it all at the end of the event: "you can tell when the children don't want to leave during their summer vacation even after more than 1.5 hours".
