We fought a good fight and the people of Alabama have spoken. So many people have helped me in this campaign and over the years, they love this state and I love them.
I want to congratulate Tommy Tuberville on his victory tonight. He is our Republican nominee. We must all stand behind him in November.
Mary and I have had an incredible adventure - we were present at the creation of the modern Republican party of Alabama. When we started, there were only two Republican members ...in the entire Alabama Legislature. The “Good Ole Boy Network” began to crumble in the face of Republican advancement of honest and efficient public policies. Now, every state-wide elected official in Alabama is a Republican, save one…
Ours is a state of honorable, decent, conservative, Republican people. Doug Jones is on the other side, he’s a foot soldier in the ambitious army of Chuck Schumer. And Doug Jones would make Schumer the majority leader of the US Senate. Plain and simple, Doug Jones cannot use Alabama as a platform to advance such an agenda. The stakes are extremely high.
I have come to believe the political establishment in America is failing us. Our Republic’s pure ideals are being dangerously eroded. Our history is too often wrongfully seen in overly negative terms. We must not give in to this movement. We must reject secularism, cynicism, and relativism and affirm our belief in objective truth.
Now more than ever, we need to stand up for the Rule of Law, our Constitution, and our great and glorious country. We must not cede our nation to the mob or globalist forces. We have borders, laws, and history that must be defended. Our rights to freely exercise our religion and free speech cannot be abridged.
The Republican Party must defend the real interests of the American worker, and not be co-opted by special interests on trade, immigration, and China. If we fail to do that, we will fail as a Party.
I could not have done it without the loving support of my family – my wife Mary, my daughters Mary Abigail and Ruth, and my son Sam, and all of my ten grandchildren. I am eternally grateful for your sacrifices and support.
Let me say this about the President and our relationship. I leave with no regrets. I was honored to serve the people of Alabama in the Senate and am extraordinarily proud of our accomplishments as Attorney General. I’ve done my best to do the right thing, regardless of the consequences.
On recusal, I followed the law, I did the right thing, and I saved the President's bacon in the process. I would do it again. I leave elective office with my integrity intact and my head held high. I took the road less travelled, but that’s the honorable path.
Although this chapter is closed, we all must continue to stand up for what’s right – in the right way. Alabama IS worth fighting for, and America IS worth fighting for.
Alabama has lost one of its greatest native sons with the passing of Congressman John Lewis. His courage and relentless efforts were selfless and engendered respect, and even awe, in so many. He was truly exceptional. As one of the youngest civil rights leaders, he was relentless in advancing his vision for a nation of equality and law. For this, he was beaten and jailed many times. Importantly, he never abandoned his nonviolent principles. In so doing, this great man helped ...change an entire culture for the better and advanced reconciliation among our races to a degree that has occurred in few other countries.
He lived by the belief that justice and truth, steadfastly advanced, overcomes. God rewarded his efforts, and this nation has benefited to a monumental degree. Let us all pause to remember his life and think how this one man, empowered in the spirit, has blessed us all.
